Steam and Streamliner to Stony Point - Sunday 26 August
Join 707 Operations as we explore recent changes to the Melbourne rail network with a suburban tour to Cranbourne and Stony Point on Sunday 26 August 2018 - hauled by our steam locomotive R707 and soon to be retired V/Line locomotive A66.
See parts of Melbourne that you have never seen before, as our excursion train travels the Cranbourne and Frankston/Stony Point lines, that are currently being transformed by the Level Crossing Removal Program as well as infrastructure changes across the rail network over the past 30 years since our last trip to Stony Point.
The train features our 1950's open saloon and compartment carriages and lounge carriage BK708 for the trip.
Our heritage train features:
- Air conditioned restored 1950's carriages
- Licensed club and lounge carriages
- Cafe Hudson espresso bar
- Heritage steam locomotive R707 and streamliner diesel locomotive A66
- Relaxed vintage travel atmosphere
The train will be running a steam-hauled train to Stony Point on Sunday 26 August, departing from Melbourne's Southern Cross Station at 9.50 am and Flinders Street Station at 9.55 am. With a suburban pick up at Newport Station at 9.25 am.
Our train will head to Cranbourne via the new skyrail elevated railway line arriving at 10.55 am before retracing our journey to Flinders Street Station for a brief city lunch stop. Then departing at 12.55 pm from Flinders Street Station we head south to Frankston and Stony Point with a rare opportunity for a photostop on route while we transverse duplicated sections of railway between Caulfield and Moorabbin.
We will arrive into Stony Point at 3.25 pm where the steam locomotive is serviced and provisioned before a spirited return to Southern Cross station, where we will arrive at 6.30 pm (and Flinders Street Station 6.25 pm) and Newport Station 6.50 pm.
The trip provides a great opportunity for a group of friends and family explore Melbourne's suburban rail network.
