quoting from the previously listed plan. Apologies if i miss anything

Key Actions:-

The Victorian Government will negotiate appropriate timing and funding arrangements with mineral sands companies for the upgrade of rail lines in north-west Victoria that will facilitate the efficient and cost effective movement of mineral sands to Hamilton.

The Victorian Government recommends that the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC)-leased Maroona to Portland rail line be added to the national network.

Key Actions subject to commonwealth gov't contribution

The Victorian Government will maintain and enhance the capacity of the Warrnambool–Melbourne Rail Line to assist the movement of containerised dairy/meat products to the Port of Melbourne for export.

The Victorian and South Australian Governments will
continue to progress cooperatively with the ARTC, Commonwealth and the private sector opportunities to increase rail’s share of the national freight task through re-opening and standardising key lines in
south-eastern Australia.

Handling facilities outside the Port of Portland precinct may need to be upgraded to meet the multi-modal freight task for timber and other products.

In summary; the projects 2009-2014 subject to Commonwealth funding

1. Re-open and guage convert Heywood-Kalangadoo(penola) rail line & establish intermodal terminals at Penola, Portland, and Mt. Gambier

2. Re-open and guage convert Wolsley-Kalangadoo rail line

3. Upgrade Ararat-Marybrough and Manangatang-Robinvale rail lines for minderal sands for transport of materials for processing at hamilton

They have completed the "remove old and inefficient crossing infrastructure" phase but have forgotten the "build new crossing loops" part. Evil or Very Mad

Me too, I've heard all this before and still we have had only 4 trains for the year.

As for upgrading port facilities, don't think that's happening either as they have been knocked back for gov. funding for the new woodchip plans.

well I think they are all grand standing and should be ashamed of themselves ..
they made all sorts of promises a short while ago >> and what has happened .. couple of months of trains .. then all in a heap ..
When a train is on it its happening ,  not before ..
and they want the people of Portland to believe them ..
what a joke !! Rolling Eyes

Small piece in local paper says no trains from El Zorro for awhile due to downturn in economy and 20% less production of mineral sands (zircon) from Iluka.
Iluka still exporting the same amount of zircon through the port.

Does this mean that rail is not getting the volumes at the present time, or there just isn't the volume.  Would you please be more specific?  Which port?

Y115 is correct , In todays Adelaide paper  Iluka  tells a different story saying that cannot get enough Zircon for China to make Tiles and toilets........ yet it is sending most to Warrnambool ,  but leaving Porland alone ..

Me thinks some one outside of this thread is tampering with the truth  Rolling Eyes
