    1) Can you name the places/towns along th sth gippsland line in which electronic signals occured? (ones with a light on a black metal circle; usually featured at active level crossings to let drivers know whether lights facing road drivers were flashing and was safe for them to enter crossing)(think that's what they're for)

    Colour light signals? Korumburra had them from at least 1979:

    However in this case they were both home signals that controlled trains arriving and departing the station. You can have automatic signals before a level crossing, usually in a yard. They are usually showing proceed unless you want to shunt towards it, in which case a key switch override lets you put the signal to stop, and the level crossing will be prevented from blocking road traffic. Waurn Ponds is one spot (on a totally different line)

    Last official one in service I think was at Tylden on Daylesford line.

    You're right - I remember seeing it working on the last train to Daylesford in 1978. It was at Chanters Lane.

    I've got a good question for you rail enthusiasts. Does anyone know what the tonnage limit was for the line around the period of the withdrawal of the Yarram passenger service in 1981 till Leongatha's in 1993?   Question

    I've recently read a report from South Gippsland Shire's plans for Leongatha. For the Rail/Transport section they reported that they are interested in trying to reinstate the service to Leongatha. They've tried for the last few year's and as we know nothing as been done, but there still keen to. If this goes forward, I've heard rumors that they'll try to relocate the station, even though this has been talked about for a few years.

    Some battles are worth the fight and have public support (like restoring the pass to Bairnsdale). This one is a total lost cause - doesn't have the support of Government or Opposition parties, so it's not even on the radar. SG Shire can't relocate the Leongatha station as the lease is on VicTrack land (and the building is probably on the Shire's heritage planning list). The Shire would have to do a deal with VicTrack/SG Railway if there was to be a redevelopment of the station ground.

    From what I've heard recently, the only town's that the two town that are really keen for the passenger service are Koo Wee Rup and Korumburra. Leongatha and Lang Lang are fine with whichever form of transport they get, but as long as they get some sort of public transport service. Haven't heard much from Nyora and Loch though.

    Off topic but, I recon by around 2020 - 2030 or possibly earlier, we'll see a passenger train running to Leongatha again, due to the population increase and the Government by then may have a different view.
