What would SZ7 be replaced with? Maybe once VL42 and VL43 are running replacing services, it could be replaced with, say, a H set (or a handful of Sprinters).

Probably an VN, VSH, or VLH set. The loco is already allocated for the run. It would make no sense to change it to a DMU and upset the 4:55's timetable.

A Sprinter would increase the speed of the run, and a VLocity even more so. If the 4:55 gets to Geelong quicker, then it must wait or terminate. As the 4:55 gets to Geelong, the prior 4:40 flagship returns from Marshall through the tunnel empty.

Also, you'd need 5 or more Sprinters, which we don't have.

With regards to SN1, there is one N car that you have not taken into account that will most likely complete this set...

Yep that's right.

It's pretty much done, I was doing the heights on it yesterday

Just wandering why there is a delay with BN19 joining SN1 were there electrical/bogie issues or were they still just finishing it off.
  SN7 Chief Commissioner

Sprinter 7020 has returned to revenue service after 6 months out of action, still out of action are 7015/7018/7021 (brake faults)  and 7005 under refurbishment - failed test run last week.

Set VSH 22 is under refurbishment and the three  N cars from FN5 (ex Exam)  and BN 19  (ex Kerang N7 set) (to join SN1 Set) should appear this week.

Cars BZN 252 (part of FN 5)  , BZN 262 (part of FN3) BZN 271 ( part of FN11) are all awaiting bogie repairs and are out of traffic, post exam (252&262) & refurbishment (271)

The remains of Carriage BRN 20 have been scrapped.

N 458 has replaced N 468 as the Maryborough driver training loco which in turn replaced N 453.

The first  of three N class locos should be shopped in coming weeks for gauge conversion I believe.

BN19 is *this* close to being re-entered into traffic.

Pretty much all that is left is the uncoupling gear on both ends

Aside from changes to the V/Line fleet - today saw the changeover of maintenance provider to Bombardier, several persons where seen at Southern Cross replacing decals on maintainence carts - buggies that go on platforms  from EDI to BT.

Car set FN 5 - three N cars only and BN 19 go for test run today.

Set FN 8 ( ACN24- BRN 34- BTN253 - BZN 256 )  has been shopped for G exam - refurbishment repaint etc.
  SN7 Chief Commissioner

Car BN 19 should be placed into set SN 1 tomorrow, this set has been in running as 4 cars + PCJ 942 - with the PCJ on the west end due to lack of bifurcation on car BN 2 which should see the problem resolved with the addition of BN 19 - and the PCJ should be reversed to the East end.

Car set FN 8 - at Newport also went without car BTN 253 , only cars ACN24 - BRN 34 & BZN 256 have gone in for exam.

Technically speaking there are now 5 spare "loose"  cars at the moment - BTN 251 , BTN 253 , BTN 254 , BTN 264 & BCZ 259. - however some  will be replacing  the three cars marooned at Newport awaiting bogies (BZN 252, 262 & 271.)

Set Z57 did not go to Geelong this weekend on its normal run account defects , and at last word the cars are to be retained for use to build up all remaining 4 car sets to 5 cars, however this is an option - the days running the 1655 MArshall and return are numbered, with more Vlocity units about to enter service, with 3VL42 imminent.

If anyones around, the 1033 down Seymour, lead v/locity car has the VR Logo and wings perfectly done on the front of it, in the dirt... could not get my camera out fast enough  Evil or Very Mad  Well done to whoever is responsible.
  Speed Minister for Railways

This press release said that a new Vlocity entered service on Wednesday. It also said that it rolled off the production line. I suspect that the latter is correct.
At Bombardier’s Dandenong plant today, Premier John Brumby inspected the first new full three-carriage VLocity train built as part of the Victorian Government’s $236 million regional train order which is undergoing the final stages of commissioning before it enters service later this week.

Mr Brumby said the new train built on 102 extra VLocity carriages already in service on the regional rail network which had also been built at Bombardier, providing the company with a forward works program that is delivering job security for its 130 employees.

The Government has ordered 134 VLocity carriages for the regional rail network, with 102 in service and all carriages expected to be rolled-out by October 2011
