    Can anyone give me a good reason why I should continue my subscription?

    I remember when, if you had a magazine subscription it was (a) cheaper, but the best advantage was (b) you got it before it hit the news stands - sometimes up to a week before? With a couple of quite large newsagents near me, I'd be better off keeping the $54 in my pocket and watching these threads for news of its arrival to the newsagent. Or am I wrong?

    There is also something to be said about getting an agent of the government to deliver a package containing a magazine that you want for both the pictures and the articles! Wink

    It was in my letterbox today, but sadly Auspost had had their way with it yet again ... folded and damaged cover as usual, despite the larger box for periodicals above our personal one. Sad

    As a postie, I say, get a bigger mail box.  44 gallon drums with an end cut out make the best mail recepticales.  Twisted Evil

    Seriously though, if it's becoming a real problem, talk nicely to him/her about it. Failing that, contact Austpost customer service.

    From experience the posties regard the large box as being for newspapers, advertising flyers and so forth.

    Yep, picked a copy up from Branchline today. Some very good bits and pieces in there! Although not a NSW modeler, I really enjoyed the Bowen Creek layout (it's got a few bits that inspired me actually! Smile ). And the etching article might just get me motivated to try some in the near future Smile

    Actually, the whole lot were a good read (it's not often I actually get into a magazine and read the whole thing!).

    I am starting to think like ozmoe! I have seen the magazine at newsagents for over a week, yet yesterdays mail still brought no joy for my subscription copy.

    I subscribe for reliability of getting the magazine whilst away and for personal budgeting.

    I agree totally with ozmoe's concerns re price and distribution reliability. Subscribing brings real benefits to the publisher in known print run quantities and ensuring viability of future runs, for this reason the vast majority of publishers reward subscribers with a discount (usually the newsagents % minus postage) and get the subscribers copies in the mail before commercial distribution. So what goes on with AMRM? I know it is still in the dark ages with re-subscriptions, sending out snail mail notes (costs) instead of emails to someone who subscribed by the net, but what about ozmoe's quite valid points and the mail out delays? Auspost can't be blamed for everything.

    By the way what is it with including the reduntant word "magazine" in the title? Just poor use of the language? It is hardly a book, brick or piece of wood, I know "Time" magazine is refered to as such, but you don't see the word "magazine" on the cover, so how about another little freshen-up of the cover?

    I'm with Hendo and ozmoe on this. I've subscribed for about 25 years; there was a time when subscription copies almost always arrived earlier than retail but now I almost never get my copy in the mail (spindled, folded and muutilated as always) until more than a week after I see it in the Brisbane newsagents. The current issue hasn't arrived yet. I suspect I won't be bothering much longer.

    Its a vexed question the is old business about  subs v purchase etc.

    There will always be horses for courses but I must confess Ive  been tempted at times to subscribe and yet I dont.  This has nothing to do with teh contenty of the mag etc and the  arguments pro and con  subs ought not visit this subject as its irrelevant.  The content is the content.  The discussion as I read it always centres on timeliness and /or  ease of procurement.

    I've two Newagencies both with 5 mins of me that stock AMRM. I got mine Tuesday.  Possibly if mailed i might have it a day or so earlier and then itd be scrunched up in the letter box like everything else is....and likeothers there is an area to put periodicals but  thats to hard for a postie it seems. I really shouldnt have to explain to a half intelligent person where the various class of letters go surely !!

    I see subs being very handy for people of fthe beaten track  etc .
    I also have an issue ( npi ) and I agree with some others here...whats in it for me to subscribe ?  its 9 bucks either way.. Maybe if there were subs offers that included discounts on past copes ( or the dvd's) it might become enticing.  If it availed me of some extra content accessibel say on the net , that might interest me.

    As to its name  AMRM..  'magazine' is just a hang over from days of youre where its simply advertised what it was..  its wasnt a paper, pamphlet or seriled journal ..it was a magaize.

    Still in this day and age it is a bit redundant and possibly limiting.   If rebadged , in a way , as Australian Model Railway it might open itself up to more multimedia extensions as well as embracing a larger brand..

    Still thats possibly another discussion entirely.

    Im enjoying the Dec issue..great effort . I see no reason to not walk down the road and buy it at present..works for me.

    For me this was the first issue in a long time that was delivered by Australia Post after it became available in my local newsagents. If its a one off event then this debate is a waste of time.

    Sounds like you're one of the lucky ones because this isn't a one-off event for many of us. I can only recall one time in the last couple of years that my subscription (actually membership) copy arrived before the magazine appeared in the newsagencies. It was such an unusual occurrence I commented about it here. It's not as though I live in the boonies either - I'm in the suburbs of Brisbane only 9km from the GPO.

    I'd like to be in a position to discuss content but I still can't and like many others the content discussion will be over before my posted copy arrives.

    We need to know if you are a subscriber or purchase it by other means and we need to know where you are or where you purchase it.

    We have changed our distribution methods to try to have the magazine available everywhere at the same time. Obviously it is not working in some areas and we need to know where so we can ask the distributors why.

    It's not enough just to have a whinge about it here, tell us 'officially' so we can follow it up with evidence.
