A few other updates through the site, also, by the look of it.

I am still not holding my breath for the R
The balance on all orders is due by the 31st of October, 2012 in order for the pre-delivery price to be maintained. Orders not fully paid by this date will attract the after delivery price which will be $660 for the basic unit.
Full payment received before 30 June, 2006 $495
After delivery price $595
Thanks for the heads up. As said, besides the newsletter, its good to see the general update throughtout the site with updates on delivery.
One of these updates (I think) are the order forms for the steam era W44 ore wagons. Only minor winge is that the wagons are being sold in packs of five. However, the information on the Order Form makes the point that the usual load for double Garratts (between Molong and Orange) was 16 wagons. So the question is do I get 3 packs and be 1 wagon short, or all four packs and be 4 wagons too many - decisions, decisions.... Probably will just get 3 packs and hope no-one can count above 10.

Thing to consider with what is being ordered with the G wagons is the era, & type of wagon, especially the GP, & the type of bogie that was under them. The original W44 with 16 G wagons fitted with 2BP bogies came in at 928 Tons add the BV of 22tonnes & you got 950tons. The advertising on the Eureka page is a bit unclear in regard to the actual era & bogie types, the section that then says the northern section of the train N645 was hauled by a 36cl & garratt, was sort of correct, & the load fitted in IF, the whole train was the old type with that tonneage. The load for a garratt & 35/36 class was 898tons, thus 16 wagons was too many on N645.
When the G wagons were fitted with Roller Bearing bogies, the load increased by 10tonnes per wagon by which time metric loading had been brought into operation, thus the load became 1158tons plus 22 for BV making the load 1180 tonnes, well in excess of not just a 36 & the more common 35cl in the early years but also above that of a standard goods engine or 59cl with a garratt, & making the only way possible for N645 to work would have been with double garratts, which was semi common but more often than not a standard goods engine or 59 with a garratt.
According to the May 1965 Western Working Time Table the load for W44 is listed as 1020tons. Outside of block wheat trains of BWH type vehicles & only a couple of petrol trains W44/N645 were deemed the only block trains at that time. By that time 1965 there was a combination of both types of wagons on the train with old & new bogies, & why the load was set at 1020 tons as that was the load for 1 light & 1 heavy garratt from Molong, but too much for other than a standard goods/59 + garratt up north.
For modelling purposes, 15 of those wagons, + BV would be an appropriate amount of wagons for the period, & not 16.
Well I was going to model W44 until I worked out the cost.
Thats two weathered garratts with sound $960 x 2 = $1920
3 weathered wagon packs $310 x 3 = $930
And I need a brakevan $60
Lets see Grand total = $2910
Nah don't think so

There is a cheaper way, although not as charismatic. West of Parkes W44 was worked by a single 49 class. My 1962 WTT shows a load of 1020 tons between Broken Hill and Parkes, the maximum for a single 49 right up to 1989 when the 49s left Parkes. The timetable has no obvious return working and I was once told by one of the old Parkes drivers that the empties into and out of Parkes were attached to a normal goods train rather than working as a block load.
Just called Eureka today for some details on the R class. Was told that they now expect delivery "around Feb 2013" not in December as stated on Eureka Times
So I'm guessing that probably could mean middle of the year?
Confirmed full payment of $550 required by end of this month (October). After that it will be $650

Yes to read between the lines of that, I would expect them in May 2013 now.
If they currently think that they are four months away, that is too far away to be optimistic that it won't blow out again. One could be hopeful, but given the history so far with Eureka, I wouldn't be confident.
The worst thing is the West Coast Rail versions are even further away, the time frame for them is a complete mystery.
Regards all,
Toby

I too am now in the position of having waited for a similar period of time. Given that I'm not really concentrating on VR any more I have to admit that I'm not stressing about it's arrival, although it will be my last VR loco for some time, unless I should happen to win lotto!
I'm sure too though, that Ron himself must be bitterly disappointed about how long this has taken. I only hope that it is a good model and that it doesn't get picked to bits after it does finally arrive, like the 38 did (I'm not saying the Eureka 38 doesn't have errors).
The other point for me is that at least I did pay for them long ago, because if I had to find the money for them now, I probably wouldn't be getting one.
Regards,
Toby
