Update.

Camera 2 still has issues and has not yet been installed.  Camera 1 is operating but appears to drop off the network from time to time (local to Gherhinghap) and this is causing trains to be missed by the camera.  The camera is probably recording the trains but is not able to then send the image to flickr.

Direct access to the camera images is now available at: http://www.railpage.com.au/railcams/gheringhaploop/

Flickr must have some serious issues at present.

All images form today on the gheringhap cam have been added into the photo stream twice. Now as at 8pm, there are no images appearing on the photostream even though we are sending them through to flickr from Geelong.

Interesting.

The flickr issues for gheringhap loop continue.  I can confirm the camera at GHAP is taking images of passing trains and sending these to flickr but flickr is not processing at this time.

It's a free Flickr account, isn't it? Are you sure it's not falling foul of the free account limitations?

sure am. All the happens is only the 200  most recent images are displayed in the stream.  The kkucam1 stream only has approximately 100 images in the entire stream.  Nope, something is broken.

images are now flowing once again.  Looks like flickr got itself into a nasty knot.

Hi all,

If I look at it on the Flickr page, the last update seems to be 5/4, but on the Railpage page, it's showing the latest.

Although when I was down there the other day, it seemed to miss the odd train.

We're moving to a new, private Flickr account to store railcam photos.

Having separate Flickr accounts for each railcam makes it awkward to maintain the images. Additionally, these railcams cost us a considerable amount of money to install and operate and while we like to have our data open and available to all, we're losing out on traffic to Railpage by allowing people to view railcam photos directly on Flickr.

Flickr also won't show the rich data we attach to railcam photos, such as locations and locos and - eventually - timetables (say whaaaaat?)

I've got no issue with that, as long as the Railpage functionality matches what was on Flickr and is easy to view on a smartphone.

eg: At the moment, the time and date is only displayed on the photo when viewing the most recent 10. As soon as you try to look at older ones, the watermark with the time and date is no longer there.

Also on Flickr I can go back using an archive functionality and see what was uploaded on a given date.

We are currently installing a second IP camera at the site. Stay tuned for some HD images coming through.

I've noticed the gheringhap loop cams seem to have a lot of shots with nothing going on. Any idea what's causing this?

This was one of the reasons we have changed the setup today.  Camera 1 is mounted high on the roof of the house and is subject to a lot of wind and therefore false positives.

The two new HD cams numbered 2 and 3 are installed a little lower and are now wind protected.

We hope this will sort out the issues with the false activations.

Taking a look at that tonight.

Most of the false positives have been cleaned up and we will continue to tweak the cameras over the next few days.  We can later make a decision regarding which camera we keep if not both.

from this morning
