Last train to angaston

    hi, I was wondering when was the last passenger or any form of train to utilise the Nuriootpa to Angaston track?
    cant find it anywhere on Google Question

    From what I remember - and some other members may know more.

    Correct me if i'm wrong, which I might be, but Transadelaide ran some special tour to Angaston either 2003/04. If memory serves me correctly, they sent up 3125 and 3126 railcars??

    There were few trips with 3000/3100 railcars organised by NRM I believe. One included a shuttle run from Angaston to the Penrice Quarry.

    The last train was formed by 3125/3126 on November 7, 2004. This was the special that visited the quarry and also to Tanunda before returning to Angaston and home. I was fortunate enough to be on that special.

    Why is it stupid and why was it not needed?

    1. It maintains the corridor for possible future rail use
    2. If it wasn't needed then why was it built?   Presumably there was a local demand for it.
    3. Better to use the corridor for something rather than nothing.

    The corridor is still owned by the SA gov and is only leased to the council. Most of the track is still there as it is heritage listed . I think the track actually makes good use of the land. They have done up the land pretty well in the yard with most of the yard still in tact.

    Just to clarify.  No track remains on the railway corridor between Nuriootpa and Angaston - its a walking and cycle track - which I use regularly.  A small amount of track remains in Angaston yard only.  8)

    I believe the yard is Heritage Listed
