I was at Woy Woy Station last week and I noticed an 8 car H set bound for Wyong go past with 2 guards... One in the normal compartment in the middle of the train and one at the end of the train. Is this now a common occurance?
thefatcontroller
As previously suggested, "guard" in the middle would be a repeater, the function of which is done by station staff, not train crew.

They are put on 8 car Oscars on the Short North & South Coast, and on some of the longer V-set consists on the Short North & Blue Mountains. Some platforms on all of these lines have shorter and/or pronouncedly curved platforms, and the repeater gives the initial right of way, so the guard can then close the doors & bell the driver.

I have a query

Out of interest, I was doing research on Bathurst railway station and saw there are 2 side platforms, one that is currently in use.

Two questions if anyone can answer

1. What was the other platform (South side) used for in terms of trains?

2. How do you move between the two side platforms? I didn't see a foot bridge nor a road crossing, but I might be looking at the wrong images.

There's an underground tunnel for traversing between the platforms. It's closed off to the public.

Did the guard in the middle do anything? They're in the middle on services from the North Shore, but at the back on services from Central via Strathfield.

I doubt that person was an on board repeater. Especially on an H set travelling to Wyong.

He did the same thing as the rear guard just the rear guard did everything first.

Interesting. I guess it must have been an on board repeater. Strange sight at Woy Woy.

The 4:59pm Penrith to Gordon service terminated at Central (i) today (or, if you like, Sydney Terminal). Train was an 8S. It actually arrived at 6:14pm, which is the time that the 3:23pm Lithgow to Central (i) train arrives there and (I think) forms the 6:36pm Central (i) to Mt Vic service. As the train pulled into Platform 12, I could see some very confused (and horrified) looks on the faces of passengers waiting for their Mt Vic service (clearly you could see some thought they were in for a very nasty (and cold) ride home hahaha. Even heard one lady comment as I stepped off "I hope they factor in a toilet break at Penrith or wherever!". Guess they would soon realise that their regular V set was just a few minutes behind. Anyway, back to the point. I know this service ran late but it made up most of the time along the way (even skipping ahead of the Hornsby via Gordon service that comes after it, so why did they still decide to terminate at Central (i)?

Train had issues. They were announcing something-or-other on P4/5 at Blacktown stating it'd be delayed at 5pm.

Interesting this weekend due to Western line trackwork, North Shore line trains were running from Hornsby/Berowra to Eastwood/Epping and some Northern line services were terminating at Rhodes.

Sorry to burst excitement bubbles, but I would suggest that a fairly routine set of trackwork terminating procedures - ie terminating at Rhodes, or Epping Berowra shuttles, is that noteworthy.  On the other hand, the occurrences of western line services going to Berowra via ECRL, but with the stopping pattern of Central, all to Chatswood, Epping, Hornsby and All to Berowra - that is something much, much more unusual than fairly normal trackwork arrangements.

Sorry on further review the majority of services terminating at Rhodesare starting from Liverpool then operating via Bankstown then via the city circle and becoming an inner west service to strathfield and direct to rhodes.

Does anyone have any updates on the Carlingford Line trackwork? I notice on the CityRail website that one of the works being undertaken will be the upgrade of the power supply to accomodate more air conditioned trains.

Will there be more trains running on this line post the October new TT?

"Blackadder"

I noticed a different closing doors DVA on my 04:55 train from Campbelltown to the city train on Sunday morning. Didn't notice what set it was but the DVA was quicker than the others. Instead of "Stand clear.........doors closing" it was "Stand clear doors closing" which is better IMO.

Yes seems they have updated the DVA announcement for the doors, noticed it on a number of A sets.
