Is the removal of T Sets from Sector 2 permanent, or will some Hornsby T Sets get sent to Mortdale to resume lending to Sector 2 once Sector 3A starts using A Sets?

Sorry, I meant Sector 3B not 3A.

No idea, but my speculation is that Hornsby will be sending at least a couple T sets down to Mortdale, but not to lend to Flemington for the day. Instead, I think it much more likely that these will be used to cover any gaps in Mortdale's T set fleet, so that no spare S sets have to sit around Mortdale.

This is now possible because of the A sets on Sector 2 and 3A, which allow for culling of their own S set runs.

Sir S Set

Yes, at least until there is a re-allocation of the entire Fleet, we probably won't see T's running Sector 2 services.

T sets were provided by Mortdale for Sector 2. Now, those runs are provided by S sets from Flemington, and in theory those S sets were transferred from Mortdale to Flemington.
The T sets that were operating on Sector 2 now operate on Sector 1 in place of the transferred S sets.
Mortdale retain the same number of T sets, with all T sets now at home on the Illawarra.
Mortdale have less Fleet by not having to worry about S sets.
Mortdale have 61 T sets, and require 54 for the Timetable, so if it becomes common for more than 7 T sets to be out of traffic for Repairs and Maintenance, that's when they may need help with more sets, possibly from Hornsby.

Set A42 has been delivered to Auburn.
It seems that cars 5342 and 5442 are on both the PPTV and A42, so Railcorp now has duplicate Waratah cars.

A42 sighted Saturday Night, April 27, on Berowra Down Platform at 1725 hours, destination indicator showing "train under test".

My guess is A39 was only a replacement set as the sighted run last week is back to a T set.

A43 at AMC, doesn't have any waratah logos on it.

Of course there will A sets without logos when it's arrived at AMF and does test runs until it gets into passenger service, unless A43 would appear like A2 and A3 having CityRail logos on the side. When each A set is about to enter passenger service the Waratah logos will be labelled on the side of the train then.

Doubtfull more than likely they will stay blank until the new junk logo is printed to be placed on them.

Doubtful as the Waratah/Lotus is still the symbol of the overiding agency (ie NSW Govt), the A-Sets are devoid of any logo apart from the Waratah/Lotus and more than probable will remain so,

Overheard a CityRail staff member chatting with the guard at North Ryde that an order for 20 more A sets has been placed due to 26 Tangara carriages being retired as a result of having no spare parts. He also went on to say that 160 S set carriages will still be kept. Is this correct?

This wouldn't be true. I wouldn't see the point why they would retire less airconditioned carriages and keep more non airconditioned carriages. If S sets were kept for more longer then it wouldn't be that comfortable until there's a slight refurbishment for them to have airconditioning which would be impossible. I hope they find ways of fixing the 26 carriages in the Tangara fleet before trying to retire them and with Waratahs that break down of course they can use C sets or Tangaras as standbys since there have been C sets that have taken over S set services, they could do it with some of the Waratah services as well incase a Waratah breaks down.

One Waratah set has appeared with "The Hop" logo in place of the Waratah between the top and bottom deck, with a small "Operated by Sydney Trains" Waratah logo near the cab.

I cannot post the photos as they are not mine, but I'm sure everyone will see it sooner or later as more sets are rolled out.

As for the Tangaras being withdrawn, if you've not heard a rumour by lunch time, make one up. I'll believe it when it comes from a more official source than "some guard" (no offense intended to the person who overheard it, of course. Honest enough question given what they've overheard).

Well we DO know that the current order for Waratahs will leave 5% of the Sydney trains fleet as S-sets.
We also know that a number ? of 8-car S-sets are to kept and these sets continue to overhauled and serviced.
Most Railcorp Train supply contracts have an option to extend,
Waratah is no different and I believe that this may happen possibly included in the 2014 State Budget. (I'm only guessing here)

As for the Tangara, yes the TMS parts are virtually non existent and the TMS are often giving grief.
False door faults and traction faults.
As for scrapping them? NO WAY!
It is NOT going to happen.
There are plans to upgrade Tangara's operating system but this is pending $$'s
Don't expect any announcements about this until after July 1 and things (new management) settles in.

I'm guessing the S sets that will remain are all gonna get flung up the North Shore Line. But which North Shore and Western rosters (and their times) have been chosen for A set services anyway?

Sir S Set
I don't think so, since there are a limited amount of A sets used on those lines, most K sets will take over S set services. Because there is no newer rollingstock on the South West Rail link they probably need the remaining S sets on those lines. But there's a link that shows it here:

In order to take up the option for another 20 sets, the NSW Government was required to make a decision by March-ish in order to get the materials and parts ordered in time, and to prevent staff being laid off or transferred to other projects at CRC. This did not happen, so the extra 20 sets will almost certainly not be coming - the longer they delay, the more it costs to re-hire staff and get production back up to speed.

I sighted A44 under test last night at Minto, around 20:19 - Headboard showed "Central via Granville" from memory.

Managed to grab a quick snap, though not very good.
