Looking forward to another great show this year.  I wonder if the snow scenes of Splitters Swamp Creek will again win the judges over Razz

Okay, I'll fess up, I originally and somewhat hastily read the title of this thread as "2013 Quality Deserts Toowoomba Model Train Exhibition Exhibit List" and thought 'Oooh! - that sounds juicy, what's gone wrong here' then on reading the list of attendees I was thinking 'These sound like all pretty reasonable standard layouts'.
Then I realised the were two essessessess and we were just having a naming sponsor plugged in the title... Embarassed

Aaron
Aaron,

A good take on the name, never registered to me that we had been deserted by quality exhibits, I'm glad to say that is not the case.

Sponsorship of the event makes it possible as all costs keep going up even though we don't reimburse exhibits, we have no shortage of applications, we do put every effort into looking after the exhibitors though.

As far as sponsors go, at this stage we have Quality Desserts (two esses, sweet things to eat), who have paid a naming rights fee as well as supply cakes (their famous lamington's are fabulous) for the morning and afternoon teas.

Also supporting us is Greg Black Constructions as a Silver sponsor, McDonald's four Toowoomba stores owned by a member as a Bronze sponsor and Highfields Plaza Veterinary Surgery as a Supporter.

Isn't it fantastic to see non-rail activities supporting the hobby, there are also other supporters in kind that help make the event possible.

Of course the traders that attend also help finance the event and some make a specific point of coming to this exhibition.

We are very fortunate to have this support, as being situated where we are in this part of Queensland, the number of patrons that visit seems to stay around two and a half/three thousand, not enough alone to support the exhibition.

Many of the exhibitors see this annual event as a great social get together.

Splitters Swamp Creek is a very nice layout, I rubbed it into Geoff Burns (owner/builder) about the "Snow scene" all weekend, don't mind if it looks like snow on the model, as long as they don't bring any real stuff with them.

I have booked fine weather for the weekend, but as you know, Mother nature quite often changes her mind.

Everything is indoors once you arrive, parking is close and plentiful (and FREE).

Here's a couple more additions as of today, 13th May, some still coming in;

STEAM TRAIN ART - Frank Mitchell
HAGLEY - N Scale - Rob Hendriks

Only a couple of weeks till the 2013 Quality Desserts Toowoomba Model Train Exhibition 1st and 2nd June, many exhibits and traders have nominated and it is assured there will be something for everyone including the craft for the ladies, children's activities, Societies, various other hobbies and of course a heap of model railway displays.

The club website - http://www.ddmrc.com.au - will  be updated during the week with a complete list of the exhibitors that will be in attendance.

Meanwhile, hop on over to the club's website and download a $1.00 discount voucher on your admission cost, one per person, they must be printed and presented (if you show us the voucher on your mobile phone, we will request that we keep the phone, it happens!).

Measured the pavilion up today with all marking for the displays chalked up, bit wet here at the moment in Toowoomba, but not really that cold, hopefully the weather will be kind to us on the weekend.

from 10am tomorrow (Friday), exhibitors will start setting up ready for the big weekend.

Any Railpagers that visit, look me up and see Ann at the club sale desk so you can enter your name in the Railpagers Book and have a chance at a prize.

Several of the Traders have advised there will be specials for the show and make note that Gwyder, J & J Hobbies and Christmas Every Day will be present along with many others.

As you leave the exhibition, copies of Model Railways In Australia will be handed out, this is issue 20 and has a Brisbane Exhibition report in it as well as useful articles, make sure and get your copy, we have 800 of them to give away.

Don't forget to vote for your favourite exhibit and lodge your entry (on the back of the fliers) for a chance to win a Workshops Rail Museum Family pass (twelve to be won).

Although primarily a Model Train Exhibition, we continue the tradition of presenting other hobbies as well as craft for the ladies.

Get the kids to colour in and they can watch children's train videos in the Kids activity area.

Look forward to seeing you at the exhibition, 9am till 5pm Saturday, 9am till 4pm Sunday.

If you are coming up the Range into Toowoomba, might be wise to check traffic reports and allow a little extra time.

Jade,

I read this a bit late, after midnight at the end of Saturday, all is going well, no record crowds unfortunately, seems to be hard to pull them through the door here, but we try.

Everyone is having a great time, had a ball at the dinner on Saturday night, great entertainment from two artists, both magicians and stand up comedy.

Hate to mention this, but our Trivia Quiz had a question about the Wuiske QLX's, "I" got the answer correct, Adam and Rob were wrong, suck eggs guys.

I imagine if the weather was like you mentioned earlier, there may have been plenty of duck eggs for the boys to even choose from.

I went to the show yesterday (Saturday) arvo. Took a few snaps which can be viewed here .

Some familiar with additions and some I hadn't seen before. I spoke with a few modellers and learned a little about 3D printing. There seemed to be a few more trade stands this year.

Another great afternoon!

Usually a regular attender, I didn't make it this year. I was coming, but my wife reminded me that I can't afford to buy the usual swag of DVDs this year due to our upcoming overseas trip... Confused

Graham,

Thanks very much for that wonderful collection of photos.  Recommend to all to have a look.

Congrats also to Ted and team for putting on such a great show.  Of course with Toowoomba being the second biggest inland city in Australia it is fitting it should have such a fine model show.  (Canberra is the only one bigger that is not on the coast)

Best regards,
John

As it turned out, the weather was very pleasant, although we did get a bit of rain on Sunday afternoon, but no one had to get wet as pack-up time was clear.

John, The three biggest inland cities was a question in the Trivia Quiz, without prejudice, most locals placed Toowoomba first Canberra second who knows what for third.

Although a large city, Toowoomba doesn't have the population like Brisbane, Sydney etc to call on, the effort the exhibitors put in does really deserve more for the exhibitors attend this exhibition in the knowledge that we provide a Friday night meal free of charge, Morning and Afternoon teas (cakes courtesy Quality Desserts) and 50% off any food/drinks over the course of the weekend, but we do not reimburse the exhibitors, if we did, there would be no show, Sponsors and trade stands keep the exhibition alive financially, whilst exhibitors unselfishly supply the entertainment..
