Are the Aurizon DFZ class new builds or rebuilds of QR 2300 class? Also, does anyone have a shot of the #1 end of DR8405 (the ex-Robe 636 currently at Flashbutt Bellvue)?

2300 class with a few mods for WA conditions. Some have received a larger cab.

I thought 8405 was cut up last year.
It was never a Robe locomotive. It was an HI locomotive.

8401 and 8403 were ex Robe units.
Its cab end was the same as the other DR units and not much altered from their final state with HI.
The main difference was the side grilles on the cab side at floor level.

Also, why do the long ends of DFZs get narrower at the end? Does the narrow part house a toilet?

Yep, something fairly new to Aurizon's Clyde rebuilds. The 2300Ds, 2275 and 2208D have been fitted with them too.

But the toilets fitted to the Clydes in Queensland are the same width as the rest of the loco hood, not narrower as in the picture above.
