Western Line  - Partial Closure

The Western and Blue Mountains lines are partially closed between Penrith and St Marys in that direction only due to a freight train with mechanical problems at Werrington.

Buses have been ordered to operate a replacement service from Penrith to St Marys but are yet to arrive.

Train tickets can be used on Westbus services in the affected areas.

Passengers are advised delay their journey or allow plenty of additional travel time.

Newcastle & Central Coast Line  - Delays

Passengers travelling past Cowan on trains heading towards Newcastle are advised to allow additional travel time due to a CountryLink XPT with mechanical problems at Cowan. The XPT is blocking the citybound track at Cowan so trains travelling in both directions are taking turns using the track heading towards Newcastle. Passengers are also advised to listen to announcements and check indicator boards. -   (The 48 is waiting at Rhodes for a Path, To go and get it )

*Edit* It looks as though they have Rectified the Problem

Western Line  - Delays
Some trains are being delayed on the Western Line due to a landslip caused by heavy rainfall at Harris Park. Trains will proceed safely through the affected area without stopping at Harris Park. A replacement bus service has been arranged between Parramatta and Granville in both directions. Delays can be expected. Engineers and repair crews are assessing damage to infrastructure. At this stage there is no forecast as to when train services can be restored. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

Having seen a photo, it looks like a 4m section of the top half Western Wall has collapsed. Affecting the Down west main. Easily 30 cubic metres of soil and debris lying across the track.

Looks a little bit longer than 4m but certainly a lot of debris to be removed.
Those walls have a negative slope backwards too so obviously water has penetrated from the street level into behind the wall.

Have the wires gone down as well or is it just the angle of the photo?

I heard there was an overhead structure involved.

There is a lot of work there to remove the debris and certify that wall stable.

A few more pics from the Daily Telegraph have emerged. Scroll down to the third pic. Me thinks the line will be closed for at least a week. No doubt the ground will have to be tested and certified by engineers etc. Let alone the clean up. The signal cables appear to be swinging in the wind and the overhead wiring is also down. I wonder if the bridge is safe?

Hi All,

Just reading both CityRail and Sydney Trains websites.  Western Line trains are delayed while Cumberland Line trains have a good service.  Go figure.

Newcastle & Central Coast Line  - Partial Closure

Passengers catching trains on the Newcastle & Central Coast Line are advised to delay their journey due to a fatality at Lisarow which has partially closed the line between Gosford and Wyong. Bus companies are being contacted to provide a replacement service however, there is no forecast for when buses will start running. Passengers should check indicator boards and listen to station announcements or make alternative arrangements.

Update on Harris Park Landslide:
Pasted from Sydneytrains.info

Passengers travelling on the Western, Cumberland and Blue Mountains lines are advised to check indicator boards and listen to station announcements following infrastructure damage caused by a landslip at Harris Park. Some trains may change their stopping patterns. Additionally, passengers on the Cumberland Line may need to change at Granville for a Western Line train as some services are not operating.

Sydney Trains engineering teams are making progress at Harris Park Station. Rubble removal is ongoing and repairs for platform 4 are underway.
Work is expected to finish in time for the Monday morning peak, with recovery teams continuing to work 24 hours a day to get the line reopened.
The likely cause of the collapse is a build-up of water behind the 30 year old retaining wall, following recent heavy rain. The cause is being further investigated.
Customers heading west on the Blue Mountains and Western lines should allow an extra ten minutes in the afternoon peak for the remainder of the week.

Citybound passengers on the Western Line and passengers travelling away from the city on the North Shore Line should allow additional travel time due to a freight train that had mechanical problems at Penrith earlier.
