Trying to decide how best to make neat white line markings on the roads and platform edgings of my HO scale layout I thought of using the self-adhesive pinstripe tape used to decorate cars. My local Auto Barn had a 3mm wide white tape (“Saas” brand) for about $7 which worked well for platform edging but looked too wide for road markings.
That was the narrowest tape that they stocked but a search on eBay quickly turned up 1/16” and 1/32” wide tapes. I bought one of each from PSF Hobbies in the USA which cost a total of USD 7.90 plus USD 2.50 postage. They haven’t been used yet but look like they’ll work fine.
As well as using them for white line road markings I plan to paint a few lengths yellow before sticking them down to mark out bus stops, rather than buy coloured tape.
