Three Carriage Xtrapolis - Clifton Hill Group

Over the last few days I have noticed that on the Clifton Hill group, there have been three carriage Xtrapolis' running some late night services.

The ones I have seen were running from Clifton Hill to Flinders St, not sure where they originated from.

My question is...

Is there a regular service that operates with 3 carriages or is it a floating schedule.

There are a handful of services that are rostered as 3 car, which are unfortunately not advertised in passenger timetables. The 0432 up Lilydale, 1829 down Alamein and 2050 down Ringwood are a few services that come to mind, as well as all late night Cranbourne, Alamein and Willy shuttles. On rare occasion Metro will run a 3 car set during peak hours to avoid a cancellation, usually skipping a couple of stops to prevent overcrowding.

It's a regular service.

The 2130 South Morang (2221 arrival) divides on the platform at South Morang.

The first 3-car unit runs as the 2255 Flinders Street, and then the 2341 Hurstbridge, where it shunts out.
The second 3-car unit runs as the 2325 Flinders Street, and then the 0011 Hurstbridge, where it shunts out, and attaches to the first 3-car unit.

The 2020 up Lilydale is 3 cars as well.  Not sure what it does after getting to Flinders Street at 2117.
