Warrnambool line freight

    Location: Going off the rails on a crazy train.
    During the week there was a rake of container wagons in Nth Geelong.
    Are these the ones to be used?
    I guess with the change over of the Paper Train, PN will have a few spare container wagons.

    PN A79 took the Warrnambool freight in this morning just before 7.45 am. This is the first time the frieght has run in over two weeks.

    Location: If it isn't obvious by now, it should be.
    What sort of wagons are PN using on this now? I heard that they were going to be using ones from the Maryvale, but I thought there were(and still are) restrictions on the South Geelong tunnel and VQDW wagons?

    Just wondering if the VQAW's have been resurrected again

    A brief item in today's Warrnambool Standard apparently said the freight, taken over by PN, will be only running 3 times a week.

    I have been told at the local model railway club (so it must be right) that the points are now in on the Warncourt loop and signal masts up. I suspect commissioning of the loop is still some time off. The longer loop will allow longer trains so perhaps then 3 trains a week would have similar capacity to the 5 trains per week of current capacity....(if you see what I'm trying to say).

    El Zorro Y class still in 3 road at Camperdown.

    Warrnambool pass extremely crowded in school holidays with many left standing from Melbourne. This afternoon down pass used buses from Geelong to try to clear extra passengers. However at least one bus missed the connection with Portland, Heywood bus and at least one taxi was pressed into service.....Hmmmmm.

    Do PN think they can grow the business in Warrnambool?  How much extra business could be available if PN decide they wish to grow the opportunities locally?

    PN are very lazy and continually fail to pursue many Victorian freight business opportunities.

    In the case of log traffic Bairnsdale to North Shore not interested, happy to have assets sit idle whilst the traffic goes by road .

    With the Warrnambool container train it is basically a hook and pull operation for PN .  It is Westvic (Wettenhalls) who generate the traffic.  The new crossing loop at Warrncoort is being put in for two reasons :  1.  To allow operation of longer consist container tarins to/from Warrnambool and 2. to allow VLP to introduce a fourth Weekday return passenger service to/from Warrnambool (expected to be a 0900 ish Up and a 1500ish  Down .)

    I wonder which route they will take after the RRL is introduced? The current path though Newport or the full RRL line to Werribee South?

    According to the RRL authority, there are no plans for freight traffic to use the new link, so freight will be via Werribee.

    All V/Line services will be removed from the Werribee line to free up paths for Metro so loco hauled pass will go via RRL.

    The only loco hauled pass services that will travel via RRL will be the Warrnambool services. Additional rolling stock that has been ordered for RRL will replace the current Geelong loco hauled pass services.

    A 78 on freight today also Sheoak trees have been planted at the carpark at Silverton park near westvic they may block some of the view if they get like my neighbours trees   Rolling Eyes.

    Trees have  also been  planted at westvic by the fence of the SES building side.
