So is the substation actually finished and live yet.
Aside from all the ADMET hype, I would doubt they would power up while much of the wiring it still being put up.
Of course this leaves the issue that the Seaford depot will have no power to even turn the lights on, on our first new train.

The system is broken into sections, hence the reason for the double poles about every 1.6 km. These sections allow both isolation and also the connection of Booster Transformers which "suck" the return current out of the rail and back into the return wire.

As it stands there is only one substation on the system, that at Lonsdale, meaning only one feed in point. another substation will go in when the line is extended to DCRCD.

It would be possible to excite the system from generators but finding a 415V to 25 kV transformer would but difficult.

Standard generators do not like supplying single phase loads, such loads cause the rotor to overheat; a specially designed alternator is required. There is also a problem when there is no load because the line is capacitive and alternators arc up at supplying capacitive loads.

It can be done but specially designed equipment is required.

There would be some merit AM investing in such a unit which could be mounted on a trailer or set of trailers one for the generator/s one for the transformer and switchgear. I am involved with the supply of equipment like this to SAPN at present.

THE Tonsley rail line will be partially duplicated to allow 15-minute train services to run once it is reopened. Infrastructure Minister Tom Koutsantonis said the Government had asked Parliament's Public Works Committee to approve the initial stages of the $63 million Tonsley Park Public Transport project, joint funded by the State and Federal governments. He said this meant the Tonsley line would remain closed until November 2013, about eight weeks longer than anticipated. "Beginning the additional track, electrification and signalling work as soon as possible provides us with the opportunity to complete the works within the existing closure," Mr Koutsantonis said. "We again are asking for commuters using the substitute bus service to wait a little longer in return for a much better service."

So they went for a portal structure over the four lines; correct me if I'm wrong but it's actually only for the benefit of the Seaford tracks on the far left whereas the Belair and ARTC tracks won't need catenary at this point?  At least they appear to have put some redundancy into the system, Belair could well go electric at some stage in the future.

All 4 tracks from Adelaide to Wayville are available to either Seaford or Belair trains as they always have been.    

I assume the eastern tracks will tend to be used for Seaford trains, and the western pair for Belair trains but there will be some trains that use the other pair.

So the line on the right of the photo is not an ARTC track?

My theory is that the crossover just south of Wayville will be where electrification ends on the Belair lines, as it is the last crossover the Seaford bound trains can use heading south before the underpass
