Hi guys,

We're now running version 3.7! Lots of updates in this version, most noticeably an updated UI and a fancy shmancy new instant search.

Please post any bugs, feedback, suggestions, etc here.

Dont know if I really like the grey background of the search bar, I think it fragments the title bar and general look of the site. maybe if the background should be all photo and not half photo and half grey.

The search is brilliant.  This was a really needed feature.

Added a news item this afternoon and it appears to have disappeared and not been added to the front page.

The front page news article are cached for five minutes. Double check that it's still missing, and PM me if it is.

Why doesn't the page fit the screen anymore?

It uses a standardised grid format which helps me ensure that everything fits better inside the confines of the page, regardless of the window size. There was a lot of jiggery-pokery required to deal with different sized windows in the previous version, not all of which worked Embarassed Additionally on 1920px wide monitors it was quite overwhelming to have all that space taken up Smile

Okay. I understood enough of that to learn to get used to it!

Windows Vista SP2 with IE9 fully patched.  The drop down menu's across the top of the screen - title's show fine however all the submenu's display the borders of the buttons without any text or colour, they are transparent.  When I try to select an item from the dropdown list (even though I cannot see the title) the dropdown menu closes immediately after the mouse moves off the top menu item.

Very odd! I'll put that in the to-do list.

It's only my laptop that I use in front of the television and I can use chrome successfully on the same machine - just thought you might like to know about it on an ageing OS Smile  Hopefully another user can confirm and that it's not something odd with my PC (err laptop).  My win7 and win8 PC's both running IE10 work fine.

The banner no longer shows "Logged in as ...", can we please have that back?

Also the logged in when you are not logged in issue from 3.6 is still there.

I dont know what has happened as I am not obviously in the loop.
I have now a message saying that I am using a very old web broswer, and to use Google Chrome or IE 9. Well, this black duck wont be using Google Chrome, and cant use IE 9.
It's interesting that some people now regard IE8 as a very old web browser Confused

And I have lost a lot of functionality. Page layout is awful, and I now have to use the site map at the bottom to navigate around the site as the drop down menus dont work for me anymore.
AND I can only log out by going into Your Account and logging out that way.

Attempts to go to the donation page - https://www.railpage.com.au/static-donate.htm - from both the "Website" drop-down menu "Donate" option, and the "Donate to Railpage" links end up at the HTTP "403 Forbidden" error handling page - https://www.railpage.com.au/error.php?e=403.

Shame - I was feeling generous !

Yep, well...use Chrome, or Firefox or Opera. Time to move on, for a whole list of reasons.

Not an option I want to take.
I am extremely happy with my current web browser, IE8, and have no need at all to swap to a different web browser, so if it means I have to drop membership of a web site, so be it.

There is only ONE web site, at the moment, that I am having issues with, out of all the web sites on the planet that I visit, and that web site is here.
Surely, it takes no effort to have this web site compatable with IE8.
Oh well, if it means I get fed up with visiting in the future, then so be it. I am sure my absence won't be noticed by many.

This website http://theie8countdown.com/ suggests that IE 8 still has 10% of the "hits" worldwide, but given 9 and 10 have been released I am not certain that it would even be supported by Microsoft anymore. I know when I worked for an international software company our policy was to drop support for those versions which were 2 releases or more older than the current.

It was always a pretty cr*ppy browser...

The search seems to work in a much more straightforward mannner than its predecessor Smile But in the two times I've used it, not yet perfect.

Mostly where I would be using search is in the instance of someone deleting a post from a thread, which means the TRN I get will go to a link that says "thread/forum does not exist" - something that's been constant on all the versions of RP that I've used in the past decade Evil or Very Mad That post deletion usually "unwatches" the thread - but in the two instances below, not so Very Happy

In my first use of search, the missing post was from the "V-set Replacement" thread in the Sydney Suburban forum. Into the search window I typed v-set replacement (no caps or punctuation apart from the dash in v-set), and it came up with 25 forum posts, the first ones of which took me straight back to the thread I was after. Very good, sez I.

Second use, missing post from the "General Cityrail Network Observations" thread in the Sydney Suburban forum. This time I copied the thread title from the TRN and pasted "General Cityrail Network Observations" (exactly as here, commas, caps & all). It came up with 5 forum posts, but none of them were from the actual thread Sad

Your thoughts, Michael?

If you look on the left-hand side, the green tab will prompt you to login whenever you aren't logged in (i.e. Hover to log into Railpage). Once you login, it changes to a simple "Railpage".

I am happy to report that the new RP search function WORKED twice in a row.

I shall try tomorrow to see if it works three times in a row.
