I'm a bit pissed off that IE8 has gone out the window (no pun intended), I hate Google chrome and it has taken me long enough to get used to IE8 that I don't want to change unless I have to upgrade the computer then it will still be an IE program. I have all my favorites organised the way I want and the homepage set up as I like, why should I have to change?

I dont know what has happened as I am not obviously in the loop.
I have now a message saying that I am using a very old web broswer, and to use Google Chrome or IE 9. Well, this black duck wont be using Google Chrome, and cant use IE 9.
It's interesting that some people now regard IE8 as a very old web browser Confused

And I have lost a lot of functionality. Page layout is awful, and I now have to use the site map at the bottom to navigate around the site as the drop down menus dont work for me anymore.
AND I can only log out by going into Your Account and logging out that way.

Yep, well...use Chrome, or Firefox or Opera. Time to move on, for a whole list of reasons.

I am happy to report that the new RP search function WORKED twice in a row.

I shall try tomorrow to see if it works three times in a row.

I am even more happy that the longtime useless RP search function worked for a THIRD TIME in a row.

I'm glad, but I really don't need to know if things are working.

Same here, james13. I am very happy with WinXP, and IE8. I have everything I want set up just right, and IE8 works absolutely fine for me.
The only issue I have is now with Railpage, and that is not a big enough reason for me change.

Suit yourselves. Support for IE8 isn't coming back. Please leave any further discussion of it out of this thread.

Why? Just because a web browser does not have Microsoft support does not mean that it loses its validity as a web browser.
Every other web site that I visit accepts IE8 browsers with no problem. Why does this web site have to be different?
You may not like IE8, but others do.

Anyway, you wont change your views, that is reasonable with me, and I wont change mine, so we're even Smile

tried to discuss a location but the attempt failed. http://www.railpage.com.au/locations/244/discuss/

it would be nice to discuss a photo in the forums through the use of a link similar in fashion to how the news discuss button works.

using the new search function is great. on searching for T402 it returned a label stating sightings which I clicked but nothing came up.  is this right or is this a bug since the label appeared?

when viewing a railcam image online it would improve the service if you could navigate forward and back through the images using buttons. by way of example if i am looking at the image http://www.railpage.com.au/railcams/bunbury-street/photo/9397357043 there is a further image more recent. i would like to click a button to then view that image along the timeline without the need to click back to the image listing and then into viewing again.

is this possible?

Hopefully I don't stir too many feathers up for suggesting as such, but in the next revision, perhaps the Search and Title area could be reduced in size?

On a 15" MacBook running 1440x900 with Dock down the bottom, OSX Title Bar, Firefox Title Bar, Address/Search Bar then the Railpage Title Bar (Railpage/Info/Corres/Cont etc) and then the Photograph bar, Address Title Bar, Did you know bar, Forum Navigation Bar, Button-Row for New Thread/Reply etc. ...
... Half of the screen real estate is already used.

Whilst I understand I could probably compact a bit of my own browser, I feel that the current iteration of Railpage doesn't seem to be a very screen-savvy design, perhaps if more computers were used in Portrait mode it wouldn't be so bad and I understand that to change it now would be a big deal for no major benefit, I think that perhaps moving forward, in a later design, The overall interface could be compacted or reduced in sized to allow the content within the page itself to be more emphasized.

Outside of that, I think the overall look is improving and feels a lot more modern and cleaner and as addressed on Page 1, The update to stop the forum "filling" the width of the screen is much appreciated.

Not so much an issue with RP3.7 code as such but in the absence of a general thread for broken links etc. that I could see...

On the Railpage Platform status page at https://www.railpage.com.au/status/ while the "donations page" text link works correctly, the PayPal Donate graphic link goes to http://www.railpage.com.au/paypal.htm which then redirects to a PayPal error page indicating that Interactive Omnimedia Pty Ltd is currently unable to receive money.

I believe from recent experience PayPal donations for Railpage actually go through a different recipient.

I tried using the older and newer buttons in Google Chrome and found that they didn't link anywhere.

No I intuitively clicked on the text think that they were buttons. I can't recall which railcam it was on but thanks anyway.

When I click on the link in this post, it says "Page not available", but if I open the link while editing the post, it works fine.
