Trainorama GM delays and numbering policy

My red and silver ANR GM24 arrived in the mail today. At last!!!!!
Seven years and eight months after ordering and paying in full.

I am pleased with the model, but were the roof fans really black? I have researched as much as I can and all the photos I can find show them red matching the body colour. On the model they look plain wrong.

My model will eventually get weathering and if I can't find any pics showing black fans they will be toned down and blended with a dirty roof.

When the weather is warmer I have some grimy black to get a bit of exhaust on that roof for you.  I have several locos to do from the last couple of years, I might even have R727 which I paid for in full in June 06, that's only 7 years and 2 months but still counting.

The actual fans themselves were painted a silver-grey colour.  The mesh which covered the fans was black, while the housing which held the mesh should be the same colour as the roof/body.

There are plenty of good reference shots of the GM class on the Comrails site - fantastic site by the way.

It ended up being the total remaining amount charged on the credit card. Hopefully there should be something in the PO Box over the next few days... Very Happy

They must have had some pretty crappy spray painters back then, there is overspray all over the countryside in the photo in that second link.

Maybe they were in the process of "branding" the countryside for CR at the same time? Laughing

Hmmmmm..... I must say I find that statement quite ironic... I spent some time lobbying for GM1 to be done in CR to be told, no one would be interested, only in AN green because that is how it run in NSW...

So the two CR locos sell out first.... They would have sold three to me if GM1 was in CR livery! Smile

Oh well....

I know they would have sold a lot more GM1's in South Australia in CR colours, AN colour schemes here are not big sellers really. But Comrail or SAR sell out real quick. I want a GM1 in CR colours but I don't want a AN version though.

I guess they will do CR GM1 in a re-run.I am more dissapointed that in the last few years they have been sitting on the tooling they did not bother to modify the tooling for rear marker lights.

I totally agree, but they might have sold out because they made the least number of them. Maybe as 2LaGrange says, hopefully we'll get GM 1 in CR with correct markers later.

Funny, I have just ordered GM1 in green&gold because that is how  I saw it over 18 years ago when i saw it at Port Augusta, in what i think is thePRR NG side now.

show the urge to model what you have seen can be strong.

Well that is true, I'm the same with V/Line tangerine and grey (albeit I have just as much VR Blue and Gold! Laughing ) it's what I saw and grew up with.

Saying that, I've already got one GM in maroon and silver, but I can't go past GM1 in CR, so I'm glad they're doing it in the next run (by popular demand? Smile ). I'm not really a big fan of the yellow loco bogies either, just something about them for some reason, but that's a personal preference.

Dropped a line to Bob's and was told a CR liveried GM would be in the next run although not necessarily GM1.

Also they don't appear to take orders or deposits for future products anymore.

But I'll be in on a CR one when they're next available.

Re-reading the news on the webpage, I did mis-read GM1 series to be GM1...

I don't blame them, they got burnt pretty badly just now with the GMs themselves!

I wonder how hard it'd be to swap bogies from a GM with yellow ones to black, or would it just be the sideframes? Anyway, that's besides the point for this thread.

I picked up GM42 ( CR ) and GM1 (AN) last week and they are pretty neat - on par with their S/42 class.
GM42 is particularly nice....

The second line is probably the precise reason they won't do a CR GM1 next.

I too will buy a CR GM from the next run, and I would probably buy CR GM1 from the third run. However, if CR GM1 was done in the second run I would not even consider looking at the production run for subsequent runs irrespective of numbers...

My GM1 arrived today, nice model. The yellow bogies might at first  "distract" but I think it is a real plus, they are a blank canvas waiting for weathering, or a coat od black paint if one desires. Easier to paint black on yellow then yellow on black ! For me it  weathering potential I see.

Now to chip it and run it downstairs ! While I have been very lucky in getting one - I didn't wait 7+  years, I am still so happy to get it and appriciate it all the more. I could have missed out.

Thankyou Trainorama and Bob's Hobbies. /i know some come here to browse so take the compliments back to all the people back there.....

well took 20 seconds to pull the body off, 30 seconds to fit the TCS DP2x-UK decoder, and  60seconds to walk down to the train room, power up and test. Numbered the loco 1000 for now.

It took longer to walk down to the train room than it took to chip the loco, something for some of the other importers to learn from.

biggest delay was decifing on what number to give GM1  could have given it a short address of 1, a long address of 1 or  461 (GM! in mobile text)

so I  gave it 1000.  The body literally comes off.  The easiest DCC conversion as were the S class locos before. But asI'm not seperating markers etc it is that easy......

Regards,
David Head

( I must be chuffed with the loco - too true)

GM32 & GM42 are back in stock due to some cancelled orders. Limited numbers available so don't procrastinate too long.
