As I arrived at Central Intercity today 4403 was pulling a rather odd train out towards Redfern.  It was made up of the locomotive, a flat wagon (modern container style), 2 or 3 blue carriages of which one seemed to be a parlor or observation car, another flat wagon and (I think) a PHG van.  This would have been at about 12:30. Does anyone know what this movement was?

I saw footage of the the exact same train on YouTube travelling through Cockle Creek and Kotara on August 7th.

It is the Boyd Munro carriage set. 4403 and the brake van are from the ARHS ACT (Canberra). I would be guessing that Mr Munro is heading off on another private rail cruise.

Just a chartered train for Boyd, that's pretty much all there is to it.

Thanks.  He is the 3112 guy isn't he.  Strange that he wants flat wagons on a passenger train.  Maybe it gives a better view from the front and back of the carriages that way?

Got it in one! I've also seen the flat cars carrying a "smart" car on occasion. Pretty smart operation, really.

He had some ex-passenger wagons ripped down to the frames and used them as flat wagons for a period of time, but Railcorp decided that they were not suitable to run, so he has just acquired some container flat wagons and this was the pickup journey for them.

Why do they always restore alco's back to tuscan? Surely one needs a candy paint job.

Well, mostly because it is a "heritage" colour style. and what are you talking about, 4403 has candy on it in 4 different places! (inside edge of the doors)
