Hi Everyone,

Is there any more news on the NSWRTM's Steam Locomotive 3526's overhaul? The last news I heard was back in February this year.

An excellent question.  They've bothered to build a new tender tank so I would have thought that the overhaul would have begun swiftly.  Perhaps it comes down to money as with most things.

3526 was planned to return to service by the Hunter Valley Steamfest this year.

Moved to here where it'll probably get a better audience.

I think the rest of 3526 is located somewhere in the TrainWorks Great Train Hall.

Just received the latest Roundhouse magazine, not a single word about 3526.

Given the tender is, for all intents and purposes being built from the ground up. It makes sense to get all efforts focused on that then turn to the locomotive (which by the way is safely stored away in the exhibit hall) after the tender is complete.

I see 3609 is still outside - anyone know what the intention is with it?

Its a shame to see that an express passenger locomotive aka 3609 has been left to rot on a siding!

Ah my most hated phrase "left to rot".

Lets explore the practicalities of keeping absolutely everything undercover shall we?

Just because we don't know why 3609 is where it is the masses quickly fire up about how it's been "left to rot".

Perhaps enquirer with RTM?

This was latest news on 3526 back in February this year.

The tender-tank construction project for 3526 has ongoing during the course of 2012. One of the major tasks has been the hot-riveting process
Most of the 3800+ rivets are purely cosmetic, but the process of fitting them was a Hot and Noisy job using the portable furnace and hemmering them into place.

More info will be passed on in Due Coures.

Yes, I must agree with that to an extent. There are instances where this is true (6042 comes to mind), but I personally don't think this is the case with 3609.

For all we know 3609 may be out there waiting for asbestos lagging to be removed.
It may be waiting to be moved to a new home (Junee was rumoured some years ago).
It could be awaiting restoration as either a static exhibit or as an operational exhibit.
It could also be all, or none of these things.

I'll ask people to be more constructive when posting in future please.

I have heard that 3526 might be getting painted a different colour.

Cor, gee whiz, have you really?  Wow !

On the C35 Class Facebook page, there was a poll vote asking which colour scheme the public wants 3526 to be painted in. Royal Blue was the winner.

I'm sure that makes it definite - not.

The topic of putting 3526 into Blue has been raised many times (both on and off the forums).

While yes the 35 class did have members that have worn blue in the past, 26 was not one of them, neither did any of them carry blue with in there refitted state (I believe).

There is a photo of 3526's tender tank on the C35 Class Facebook page. The photo was uploaded to Facebook on the 12th April this year.

Where exactly is the locomotive's tender at the moment. Is it in the roundhouse or is it in the sidings behind the roundhouse?

The old tender was not a viable option to be repaired I believe, the tank is outside the roundhouse as is the frame.

One question I have to ask: if you're getting all the information from the C35 page on Facebook, why not ask there?

The question I ask you MC3801, are you of sound mind and just suffering from a terrible case of the foams? Or is there a certificate somewhere stating you're off the planet in a doctor's opinion?
