Instead of having Insulated Rail Joint's, axle counters have been installed, and these White Boxes are next to (or Near) each one. What would the white box contain inside it??

At Leader St crossing, just in case your confused to which line is what, DPTI have place plates on the sleepers to let you know what goes where and which way. Looking Nth and reading right to left, they read. Seaford DN, Seaford UP and Belair. The ARTC SG must feel lonely as it misses out.

A bit too narrow minded?

Damn, it was always good to have a little bit of a windbreak when urinating on the station. Still, there's always the underpass.

No surprise there, I was wondering how long they would be sitting on that.

They always say not to read the comments on the sAdvertiser website, however sometimes I just can't resist. My personal favourite:

I would like to know whats going to happen to the many kangaroos that live near and along that line, how many are going to be killed by trains. I have also been informed that a new suburb will be built somewhere along that line. The kangaroos have already lost so much of there home thanks to the train line. Seems to me that the local government do not care what happens to these beautiful creatures to the government its all about how many houses and roads they can crame into small areas. I bet my last dollar we will loose many kangaroos thanks to un caring cold hearted pollies all they have is dollar signs in there minds. One just had to see how many were killed by the big trucks when the preparing of this line started, I was fobbed of by those in the transport department then, I bet we will all be fobbed off again its how they do things, never on the up and up.
we will be fobbed off

I like how Belair line trains are saying to change at Goodwood station for the Noarlunga and Tonsley lines, you would be in for a long wait.

It would be an especially long wait if you got that announcement at some other station instead of Goodwood. The addition of additional noise pollution about safety to the announcements has unbalanced the system and it sometimes selects the announcements on a random basis. Did you know that there are connecting local buses at Lynton?

I was on the Belair train yesterday and an elderly couple looked all confused when the announcement said "Change here for trains to Noarlunga and Tonsley"

I saw more steel poles being erected through Oaklands station today.

If I had to guess at this point I reckon the Noarlunga Line will open on the 21st of September.

This afternoon the catenary wires were strung and fixed through the centre road at Brighton.  The earth and retrun conductors have now been run and fixed from Brighton to Hallett Cove.  Cantilever arms have been fitted from Brighton up to Singleton Road so the installation of the catenary between Brighton and Marino seems imminent.

However the resumption of services I believe will be determined by the upgrade of the signalling.  LED signal heads have been fitted from Goodwood to about Seacliff (junction signals excluded) and wheel detectors have been fitted out to South Brighton although not all have yet connected to junction boxes. Trackside duct and cabling work is in evidence over quite a stretch of line.  New steel equipment cabinets have recently appeared at East Ave, Emerson,  Angus Ave and Woodlands.  However there is still a lot of work to do.

Don't think they have got beyond Marino. I drove from Brighton the HCB earlier this week and many masts hadn't any hardware.
Saw them installing the earth and return wire at Brighton yesterday morning.

It's a pity this whole electrification project is running so late.  According the to the Department of Transport and Infrastructure website, the track upgrade was finished by the end of July, so it is only the signalling and electrification crews still working on the track.  The Noarlunga-Oaklands section should have been finished within the first few months of the shutdown. The team would have had 24/7 access to this section of track, and partial access to the track from Oaklands to Adelaide while other teams were upgrading the track.

The best example of how to how to do a project is the Middleborough Road grade separation in Melbourne.  The line was closed 1 January 2007 and reopened 28 January, with 2 new bridges, a rebuilt station, 1.5 km of new track that was up to 6m lower than the original, and with electrification and signalling re-installed.  To achieve this required over a year of detailed planning, plus preparatory night works such as pile driving.  The engineers were from VicRoads, and probably had more experience with large projects than those from the public transport entity.

http://www.jhas.com.au/Documents.asp?ID=13933&ProjectID=104&ProjCont=Details

What is the difference in South Australia ? Is there such a short time between when the government agrees to fund a project and when physical works are to commence ?   There is then not the opportunity for detailed planning and preparatory works.

The next large project is grade separation of the Outer Harbour line at South Road and Bowden.  If there is less pressure to start works early, hopefully there is more time for detailed planning so the shutdown period is shorter.
