Just heard the spokesperson from the Royal Show drop a clanger on Michael Smyth's ABC 891 Drive Program, just before the 5 o'clock news she said --- that the train shuttle will be working for this years show, it will stop near the Dog pavilion -- next year it will be normal services. The clanger being ... ?
well having Wayville be ready in time for the royal show IS pushing it isn't it?Their are signs up on Anzac Highway and Richmond road which have the new Wayville station l completion date is November.
PARKING at the Royal Show will come under extra pressure with revelations the Noarlunga rail service will not be back on track in time for next month's event, according to organisers.
The Advertiser can also reveal the new Wayville Railway Station - which the State Government planned to be "operational in time for the Adelaide Show'' - will not be completed in time.
The Transport Department said its "expectation'' is trains will be running again next month, but the Royal Agricultural &Horticultural Society said the line will not be operating during showtime between September 6 and 14.
"Our understanding is the Noarlunga line won't be running,'' society executive director John Rothwell said.
He hopes southern suburb show-goers will use substitute bus service instead for the Noarlunga and Tonsley lines which are closed for upgrade.
However, Unley Mayor Lachlan Clyne said it "would be logical more people will be looking to drive in from the southern suburbs'' due to the lack of train services.
And he warned motorists to obey temporary traffic restrictions in place during the show.
"We do focus on enforcement around the area because cars parked across driveways pose a risk in the event emergency services are called out,'' he said.
At a meeting last night the Unley Council discussed the potential impact of the line's closure on demand for car parking around the Wayville showgrounds.
Mayor Clyne said extra bus services and more parkland parking space could help deal with the southern suburb line closures.
While the Belair service has been running since last month, its passengers will not be able to disembark at the Wayville station and will instead have to travel into the city and catch a shuttle service back to the station because it will have only one platform operating during the show.
They could also use the recently reopened Goodwood Station.
The transport department yesterday could not confirm the September reopening date of the Noarlunga line, which has been closed for electrification and upgrading since January.
However, in a statement last week it said the Wayville shared use path (running along the wester boundary of the showgrounds) would be reopened for the duration of the show.
As for the eastern Platform a quick coat of asphalt and you have a temporary surface long enough for the show. A shelter, I suggested a Marque as was used for the temporary stop.If the show shuttle must run as a train and not just a higher frequency 21W to the Goodwood Road entrance, to me it looks like the best option would be to get the same old staging contractor to set up the temporary platform for one last time. Further down to the south after the future Wayville station, around the spot where it would stop to change ends and near the back access gate as used previously.
The article suggests that the show shuttle will be running.
At last they have woken up their was no way they could run a show shuttle this year and it will be a sub bus after all from North Terrace to the Show grounds called 23W check Adelaide Metro site for times.
The line between Adelaide and Goodwood and is stiil considered to be a Worksite at this stage,
The down Seaford platform looks like it only needs a toping and erection of a marque for ticket sales etc.
There is as yet no access to the up and Belair platforms.
From the evidence in this thread it is possible to operate a showground service using the Seaford line as far as signal 413 which is fixed red. In operation trains could run from ARS to the down platform and discharge pax. The train could then load with up bound pax then continue down to signal 416. The train would then reverse and return to ARS by the up line. Having a driver each end would facilitate reversing.
QED.
