Query re sponsorship of Goodwood Railway Station?

Does anyone know if the Church of Scientology still have an existing agreement with Adelaide Metro to maintain the Goodwood Railway Station in return for anti drugs advertising being able to be displayed there? This blog site was one of the only real links that I could find on it.

I don't think it was ever so much as a 'sponsorship' but just a flagrant abuse of the station adoption scheme. I don't know if it's ongoing, it might not mean anything but I'll have a look next time I go past to see if the little yellow station adoption scheme signs are still there

I know that the station adoption scheme has become better regulated than that in the years since then. A relative of mine is involved with the much more responsible group which does an excellent job at Coromandel, she says some find the level of regulation and specification almost frustrating - but that's what you want. She also says they could well be the only group looking forward to additional weekend shutdown periods on the Belair line during nice spring to summer weather, the garden is going to look fantastic.

It's a pity that TransAdelaide weren't able to tell the difference between a nice community-minded local church or local service group and an infamous cult like the Church of Scientology.

This is the fundamental modus operandi of the Church; they have many 'affiliates' but they seldom disclose up front that they are actually derived from Scientology.  The "Drug Free Ambassadors" program is particularly tricky because its a goal that resonates well with most people, particularly educators and parents, but hardly anyone would be aware of the fact that it's a Scientology group until you get further into it and start to hear about what a great man L. Ron Hubbard was and how his 'technology' has improved the lives of millions of people.

You could hardly blame TransAdelaide for not twigging years ago; I remember that mural being there when I lived in the area in the 1990's so it must have been there for at least 15 years.  However in these days of Google it often takes thirty seconds to find out the truth behind something like that, doesn't it.

Good point about the adoption scheme, the Edwardstown Masonic Lodge do the Edwardstown train station and have never had any cause to go and paint their logo all over it, so why others may be permitted to do that is anyones guess!

Going into the more esoteric nature of the mural, when they mean drug free, I do wonder how many people realize that its also prescription drugs that they mean? I do also wonder how appropriate that material is to be displayed on public property? I am pretty sure a number of health professionals may see things a little differently there!

Sojourner: I'm really glad to hear that you know all about what their agenda actually is, you don't often meet people who know that "Drug Free" really means all drugs including psychiatric medications.  I'm loathe to discuss them much further on a public forum because they are quite - how should I say this - formidable when crossed.  However I'd be interested to know what the outcome is if you (or anyone else) made an official complaint.
