The biggest miniature railway in the world is a 7 and half inch railway located in the US. The track length is 20.5 kms. Assuming a maximum speed of 10Kph, it would take aproximately 2 hrs to get round. The name of the organisation is Train Mountain. The web address is http://www.trainmountain.org/. I hope this answers the question. Shocked

If it was video _ did it go for more than a minute ? I am just speculating that the train was allowed to move by itself, or the driver was doing the videoing.

Was the loco steam/non steam ? If non steam it may have a control cable and thus operated behind the camera.  We have had  our S301 temporarily Radio controlled for a TV show  years ago ( but not braked  Razz  ) at DVR.

Those crazy germans have some BIG & nice scenic layouts, 4ft watertowers, freight yards, modeled 3ft - 6ft buildings, signal x-ing's, houses..etc. It's almost like HO scenic scale in 5' & 7 1/4 gauge.

I dunno if this is relevant, but Dreamworld, Queensland's website says;
The 'Dreamworld Gold Coast Railway' is the longest privately owned railway system in Australia. The train has travelled over 650 000 kilometres on its three-kilometre long track.
"Dreamworld Website"

Is this true?

Of course not, the biggest privately own railway in Australia would be ARG , follow by Freight Australia Laughing  if you refering to company that does not own tracks then Pacific National...

Also I believe there are locos in services done alot longer journey than 650000km at Pilbara, (Might check if any of the G class locos done more than that under SCT haulage..? any of the SCT G class could easily done that since year 2000)

Sugar cane railways in QLD are all privately own and they operate alot bigger network than Dreamworld one...

So...anyone up for sue them for provide faulty information to the public? : Twisted Evil

Castledare has over 4km in Australia.  And Train Mountain will be near 25 miles and growing every year.

When I was over at Train Mountain in 2011 they had 26 miles of mainline track and were in the process of putting in another 8 mile loop up to Caboose Ridge.   They have more yard mileage than DVR has mainline.

In terms of Passengers Carried DVR is almost the biggest in the world. Over 150,000 passengers last financial year.

As said already Train Mountain is the longest and biggest globaly, pretty sure is recognised by Guiness Book Of Records. Castledare Miniature Railway in Perth is I believe the biggest non proffit/ club operated miniature railway in the Southern Hemisphere. I think its about 5km. The run out through the swamp is quite delightful.
