Cheers Al.
Hi. I noticed the new signage has been installed at West Footscray station. It seems to be the wrong way around. I.E. the number one platform is away from the city and the number two platform into the city. Most other stations are the other way around.
Cheers Al.
Seeing as it will become an island station, the tracks will need to be slewed. At the moment the down Sunbury track runs through the new up platform.I passed through there on my way to Castlemaine on Thursday. I noticed that track for platform 2 is being installed. I'm wondering in the ten day shutdown whether they will start the demolition of the old West Footscray station so that the tracks can be connected up? Is there a plan to open the station at the end of the 10 day shutdown?

According to this they do intend to demolish the old station and open the new one.Sounds to me like the footbridge will be opening, but the station proper will still be a while away. Demolition of the old station will start but presumably won't finish until the new station is operational. I suppose we'll see, though!

I went past today and observed that platform 2 of the old West Footscray station was completely gone. Platform 1 was well on the way out, with only the actual platform itself remaining. The new West Footscray station will come into operation as soon as trains start running again from/to City - Sunshine - Sunbury.
http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/training-on-wrong-track-says-rail-union-20131008-2v6fe.htmlDriver's union objecting to simulator training instead of physical training over the new track around the new West Footscray station.
I see Metro's point, in cases where it's only minor modifications, simulator training should be enough.
But...
This is a brand new station in a different place. If a driver has never stopped there before, there's a higher chance of overshooting, right?
The union may have won this one, the day this story was published, the modified timetable was extended to the 18th due to 'RRL driver training requirements'.
What about VLine drivers? Are they excepted because they don't need to stop there?
