Hitachi spotting

    Many lines have had one or two trains cancelled - that's all.  For most users the greatest inconvenience would be another few minutes to wait or taking a train a few minutes earlier.

    If you look at the timetables you will find that there are gaps created of up to one hour from these cancellations. The cancellations should have been more properly planned rather than just looking at operational convenience. It would make  more sense to cancel short workings that often run with light loads and have trains run the full distance and pick up at a few more stops.

    spotting hitachis nowadays is useless lets face it these trains are probably finished now and are waiting to be scrapped unfortunately, ive seen a set at epping for around 4 weeks now 2 3 car sets facing each other and not even coupled together, graffitied on and turned off at epping yards, I believe its 294m-288m hopefully positive signs to come though you know reactivation to service but the truth is I doubt it will happen Sad anyone have any words on there future or have any sighting/stabling?

    273M and co. moved up to the TR point and back to their original resting place Saturday morning. Obviously not (yet) rusted to the rails.

    The one at Eltham, my guess is, yes. The two at Macauley and one at Epping are all defective, at the moment, don't know the plans with regards to repairs.

    Since the Hitachis are unlikely to run again soon I'm wondering where they are stabled at the moment.
    I spotted an unknown Hitachi stabled at Craigieburn a long way from the V/line tracks next to a large shed.
    278M----285M is at Macaulay next to the bike path, 282M----295M is beside it.
    290M----298M is still at Newport, I think it's been in the same spot for three years now.

    There's a second Hitachi at Newport some distance past 290M----298M, but on a track between it and the hill.
    Does anyone know where the other two are?

    does anyone on this forum who possibly may work for metro know the future of the hitachis because im sick of hearing these posts from the past saying they have been retired withdrawn etc and then the next day the run. someone give me the truth because I like these trains a lot and in recent time I have noticed that all are out of service at the moment. does anyone has a legit source saying why this is the case? have they been officially retired? are they going to receive fixes? i'm sure everyone on this forum and previous prayer forum wants to know the truth!

    I saw one pass through Southern Cross yesterday while waiting on the country platforms. I assume it was a revenue service.

    I noticed today that hitachi 299-294m has finally moved away from epping after bout 5 weeks in the same spot and noted that hitachi 288m-273m is now at epping however it's stabled in the main yard switched off, it possibly could run the 8:11am flinderstreet service from reservoir this week as I have seen hitachis run that service a lot, so keep your eyes peeled and ill keep updated on it.

    I'm sure if someone approached Metro with money for a charter, they'd be happy to comply. I doubt they'd throw one on "for the sake of it" to please the enthusiasts, as people would likely be upset that they're on a non-a/c train when operational a/c trains sit in the yard!

    SETS in Sydney have run a number of tours like this recently, including an "S" Set tour, a "C" set tour to Kiama and a 2-car "K" Set tour around the suburbs.

    Metro will need as many trains as possible on Oaks Day. Could potentially see a Hitachi run.

    Good news hitachi 294m 299m ran the 8:11am flinderstreet service platform one reservoir today. I thought it had been deactivated after sitting at epping for almost 4 weeks but otherwise it was good to see it back in service. From what i understand there are only 2 sets running which is 299m-294m and 288m-273m. Why isnt 278m-285m and 275m-279m  from what i assume are stored either in craigiburn or maculay not running? 279m was in very good condition when i was on it earlier in the year

    I have a greater chance of getting on an Hitachi again if I get the 8:11 down to flinders from Reservoir ?

    in this case i'd like to say yes but I can't guarantee you, simply because it all depends on luck whether the set is in service or not. every time that I have seen a hitachi in service in recent times has been at 8:11. unless your able to catch the 8:11 everyday down reservoir to flinders, that is where you would most likely catch a hitachi. some weeks it has run once or twice, sometimes even 3 or 4 (never 5) days in a row and sometimes not even once for 1-3 weeks. it use to run the 8:16 down south morang a lot but now it's always the 8:11 flinders. so back to your question I would say theres a higher chance of catching one, but it's just luck. no joke when I have a feeling I might see one I usually do and it's just luck my friend. the time which this train gets to flinders street would be around I think 8:37 so maybe wait there if you want to hunt it down otherwise ill keep a look out and keep up to date with my posts on seeing them.

    Saw that one arrive at FSS platform 1 from my train as it pulled out from platform 5 at 7:56am. It would have become the 7:57 South Morang service - assuming it was running on time...
