Looks like more trackwork is planned between Burnley and Richmond stations, and possibly also between Burnley and Glenferrie...
Three road-rail excavators with what I believe are called "platypus" attachments for inserting new sleepers, and an ordinary excavator (used to spread ballast), were parked this morning in the small storage yard off Lynch Street Hawthorn, near the intersection with Power Street.
Piles of concrete sleepers, barrels of pandrol clips, some platypus attachments and sundry other equipment is stored on the waste ground adjacent to the Hawthorn rail bridge over the Yarra. There is also a store of concrete sleepers in the works siding on the up side of Burnley station.
New lengths of rail have been placed in the cess at East Richmond station, and at least two of the four tracks between East Richmond and Richmond are marked with white dashes of paint indicating where new sleepers will be inserted.
