I posted this to Train Tracking FB group.  V38/V18 on the City Outer, 15:19 Sunday, running empty after terminating at Central P17.

Can't that lead to damage of the doors??? I know it can be easily done on the S sets, but does that cause the doors to jam???

You're correct. On older trains it damages the door mechanisms. Silver set doors open very slowly because people force them. This causes the same self-important pushy tosspots to attempt to force the doors open at their station. Tangara doors can have their "rubber bands" stretched or even broken, which puts that set of doors out of action until they're repaired. Anyone forcing doors obviously has an immense sense of contempt for the rest of the passengers on the train, and should consider picking up a FREE timetable booklet so as to not have to run for trains and force doors. I've seen cars locked off because one person has damaged a set of doors. I'm sure all the people standing in the other cars were glad they made their train by forcing the doors.

I found that if i just touch the waratah doors as they close they will automatically open again!  Never done it on a silver train.

There's a video by previous member, boxythingy, which shows the doors being sloppy and not fully opening, resulting in passengers having to actually the push them open themselves.

Is this also a result of the doors mechanisms failing due to  people holding the doors open?

I really don't think 8-10 seconds is going to make a train late. Its not as if I do it everyday at every opportunity. I was being specific to Waratah trains and how the doors operate differently to other older trains. Are you going to blame elderly people, wheelchairs or prams next?

It's not "one delay" that makes trains late. It's a compound effect of multiple people making trains late. Lets assume you hit the doors. They open again. The guard (unless they've seen you do it) must now find out why the doors have "failed". Assume now, more people and moving towards the one set of doors open. They pop open again. Eventually they will REFUSE to close, so all train doors must be opened again. Then closed again. That's just one station. Assuming this happens at one, maybe two stations (I'm being generous here, I'm an ex-Station Attendant and we used to see it all the time), the train can lose a minute or two. Doesn't sound like much, does it? Today, I watched a late train from Campbelltown hold up the Homebush train from departing Homebush on time. That late Homebush train delayed the next train waiting to use the platform. Behind that train was a service headed for Campbelltown. So that's three other trains that are now late because one train was late. Assume then that the Campbelltown train at the back of the queue needs to stop at Flemington. The western line train behind it now catches up to it, now it is late.

These things have a knock on effect. You can be fined and kicked off the train for interfering with the doors. Don't.

I concur with Watson.

I remember back in 2010 I was travelling on a K set from Mt Druitt to the city, this guy jumped on at Seven Hills with about 6-7 other mates of his. When the DVA announced the doors will be closing, another mate sprinted. One of his friends pushed the doors while they were in motion, reopening the doors again.

The train was delayed for about 2 minutes, while the guard was trying to close the doors. They ended up jamming, and so everyone had to alight from the other side of the carriage.

Yeah well don't, thank you. If your friends can't be on the platform 5min before the train is due - like the other 99% of ordinary commuters - they can just get the next train, instead of being selfish and delaying the train for everyone else on board. Why should those people have to endure a late service just because one or two tools can't get their act together?

And as Raichase has explained above, these things have a domino effect. Imagine if that happened at, say, every third (or more) station between Hornsby/Penrith/Campbelltown/Waterfall/etc & Sydney? One seriously late service, a lot of peed off commuters, and some peed off station staff & train crew.

Yes, no T sets are currently tabled to run Sector 2 services.

The four (4) K set Rosters running on Sector 2, supplied by Hornsby MC, could also run with a T or S set consist.

Not really. Whilst they were maintained at HMC - for now they belong to FMC, they stable and run in sector 2 only. The T sets in sector 2 would mostly likely have been the standby sets, which, being from Hornsby could be anything.

I'll be the first to admit that I've not scrutinized the SWTT to great lengths, but I was under the impression that the K Sets on Sector 2 operated in much the same way that the Tangaras used to. That is to say that there is a cycle of the run numbers, in which one is prepared at Hornsby one morning and worked into town, then onto Sector 2, to stable overnight at (say) Liverpool. It would spend the next day running around Sector 2 and stable at (say) Campbelltown. It would then spend all day running around Sector 2 again and stable at (say) Eveleigh. Another day of Sector 2, and then empty to Hornsby? I might not be explaining that very well, but that was how the Tangaras used to be worked - they're commence a run at MMC, stable in Sector 2 for a few nights, then return empty to MMC at the end of a set period.

The former is done first thing in the morning, and the latter late in the night.  It's quite plausible that a K Set may have been available for service, and so a T Set  was sent in it's place.  I was under the impression that recently, T Sets were there to cover for some Mills that had issues.

Saw one of those myself last Sunday.  I said to the wyf and kidz that I should peel it off the wall and souvenir it, then tried to explain why.  I should have kept my mouth shut

Quite a few trains of all set types have the new maps. I imagine they're being replaced as the train goes in for maintenance work, rather than specifically targeting trains and wasting time having them out of service purely for new maps.

Was on an S set the other day and the carriage i was in had both the old maps and the new ones, the old ones were on the upper and lower decks with the new ones in the area behind the drivers cab.

They are really limiting their options with all the Bankas and Liverpool trains having to go through platform 4 Lidcombe not to mention anything South via Granville.
