N scale Waratah A-Set Train - 3D printed

  bluemattersoda Beginner

Hey all,
I recently completed a 3D printed model of the Sydney Trains Waratah A-Set in N scale, following a growing trend to 3D print trains rather than wait for a manufacturer to not produce them. Anyway, here's the finished article!

And here's some shots of the Waratah with my 700 bullet train and a BR Class 67

Thanks for looking!

Here are some work in progress shots (except for the actual 3D printing - that was done in the Netherlands by Shapeways.com!)

The bodyshells as they arrived from Shapeways

The shells after cleaning, with bogies fitted for size testing

After spraying with tamiya aluminium paint, the shells were masked in preparation for the yellow spray

And finally, decals

I've documented the construction process in greater detail, including screenshots of the computer model, at RMWeb (all across the interweb in Britain) here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/71752-sydney-waratah-a-set-in-n-scale/
Thanks again!

Very impressive, have you powered them by any chance, if so how?

There are a lot of mixed feelings about Shapeways, but the majority who have constructed models from their stuff seem satisfied and this set certainly seems quite good in scale and detail.

Job well done.
