Dear me; today we've had someone advising Victorian Transport Minister Kosky to join the cue at Centrelink.

You might worry if you meet a grammar nazi. There's a few of them around here who might look askance at your effort, iamjames407.   Idea

It's not just a question of grammar.

It's about using the word which means what you want to write.

The latest one ( spotted today ) refers to "Dimboola to the SA boarder ".

Now, there must be more than one person boarding in SA; why not cross the border and find out?

The latest to appear is the misuse of "unique".

We have recently been confronted with "pretty unique" and "very unique" to name but two.

A thing is either unique or it is not - there is no degree of "uniqueness".

It's like pregnant -  either you are or you're not.

I don't normally point out individual errors, well certainly not ones made in posts here, but when they are part of the RP site itself, they need to be fixed.  To this end, I need to point out one that exists on a page we are all seeing more and more - the server overload page.

There is a bit of a plug for the donations link on there, which goes something along the lines of: "if you would like to see less of these error messages, please donate... yadda yadda".

If you want to see less of the error messages, I would suggest  sticking a bit of paper over part of the screen.   If, as I think is the case, they are asking if you would like a reduced number of error messages, then the word is FEWER, not less.   "If you would like to see fewer error messages..."  - lovely.

'Less' relates to uncountable things, and 'fewer' relates to the countable.

Less money - fewer dollars.
Less beer - fewer bottles.
Less downtime - fewer error messages.

I posted that five years ago.  That page still hasn't been changed.

Please!  For the love of humanity!  It's freaking....

FEWER!

How hard is it to change?  IT'S BEEN FIVE YEARS!

I wish we would see less of these posts (jokes and dodges the extremely large and pointy object thrown in my general direction) Laughing  8)

Maybe they operate on Railway time, in which case they are still early and 10 years away from having a concensus on a discussion on whether to resolve to commit to an action plan outlining a response to you request?

You are resurrecting a thread, which the last post dates back to June 2010 (when I joined).

Please do not bring threads back from the grave.

Raising the dead

The forums have been around for several years now. Don't resurrect old threads (more than a year old) unless you have something substantial to add and the topic has not been discussed since in another thread.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the last post contravene the exact same posting etiquette rule ?
Is this whole thread going to disappear up it's own central orifice in a cloud of semantics ?
