Hearing reports of 9102 off the rails in Melbourne (West Footscray)

    Just got a text from my brother (Friday 29-11-13 10:45am), that a couple of container wagons are in the dirt at West Footscray. 2 XR's on front. Cheers, Murray

    I assume the freight will be struck in melbourne them  ? Or can the standard gauge get thru . I am from nsw and not sure about tge network here

    I will check with Michelle12 but I believe all the morning arrivals are in.  so the vline pass at noon might have a problem if the lines are blocked.

    The last train trough sims street on any gauge was the XPT at: http://www.railpage.com.au/railcams/bunbury-street/photo/11107663573 so with the AM5 missing perhaps both lines are blocked ???

    The last train trough sims street on any gauge was the XPT at: http://www.railpage.com.au/railcams/bunbury-street/photo/11107663573 so with the AM5 missing perhaps both lines are blocked.

    Interestingly there is currently a light up on the north track with a route to North Dynon with a single loco (AURIZON) hauling a rake just passing through now. Probably 6007 on 5AS1.  this train was seen through Gheringhap earlier this morning. The train is on the main so thanks for the update.

    A rovering reporter advises one container wagon has derailed adjacent to West Footscray Railway Station on the Local. The wagon resides immediately under the bridge at West Footscray.   The wagon is learning over toward the SG main track.

    The vline pass is passing the area currently at low speed. A green is up on the Main at Sims Street. (Thanks Rodney)

    Further updates from the site now on mobile via Rodney reporting:

    There are 7 wagons off the track with at least 1 wagon leaning against the old west footscray platform. The track in the area (the local) is badly damaged.

    1200 8615 cancelled and replaced by road coaches. 8620 also cancelled and replaced by road coaches. Apparently some passengers were det rained off 8610 but others remained on board and the train is able to continue onto SCS

    how are they going to rerail these wagons?

    it is going to be hard to get a crane in that location without taking the other line down or out of service.

    can't drive that one back on.

    it is almost in the same location as when the vline albury service derailed some time ago.

    Latest update from the Rovering Reporter. The clean-up may not start until tomorrow as cleaning up the location and re-railing the wagons will most probably interrupt the main line stopping all traffic in and out of Melbourne.

    Given the location of the derailment, i assuming both BG tracks are now blocked since the junction to Tottenham Yard is right at that location?

    when looking at the original larger link the track looks like it has come away on the dual gauge side. those wooden sleepers will need an upgrade

    The train has now been broken into two sections with the two XR's on the train pulling 3 wagons free from the remaining consist which includes the derailed wagons. Work has started.

    T400 has just arrived from Geelong to split the rear of the train. Am advised the wagons derailed will remain in situ until tomorrow evening when the crew can get an occupation.
