I guess it won't change 'til they start receiving new railcars.

Yeah. It's hard to put on extra services when you have to sacrifice per-service capacity for it!

Fremantle line tunnel operational without any major hiccups, was opened today by Deputy Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Former state planning minister Alannah MacTiernan, defense Minister Stephen Smith & state transport minister & treasurer Troy Buswell, the A Series are really smooth in the tunnels surprisingly.

Is the noise in the new tunnel less or more than the one between East Perth and Claisebrook?

No, far from it. It's not on a curve.

Good to see phase 1 of this project has been completed!    Hopefully phase 2 isn't far off!

It's always a laugh to see comments on Facebook (Perth Train Shutdown page) with the amount of people complaining about a 5 day shut down (which only affected 3 working days)
One angry commuter was upset that the train shut down caused her to get very ill due to waiting for a connecting bus.

So that means I won't need to bring earplugs for when I go through it. Brilliant!

The names are still the same...
  • Perth Station
  • Perth Underground Station
  • East Perth Terminal (standard gauge platforms)
  • East Perth Station (suburban platforms).
Can't really see them changing any time soon either.

It looks like they are installing the escalators at platform 6/7 and lift shafts for all three platforms are up (lifts not installed yet)

A new style of PIDs have gone up on platform 9, it looks like they will display real time data.

Will have to get a look at those. As long as it displays when the next train is, where it is going and optionally how many cars it has then I will be happy

  • Platform 9 is now open, was in use for Midland trains yesterday during the show (terminating trains used platform 8 to access the turnback)
  • Platform 4 has been undergoing refurbishment for the past month - it has been temporarily reopened until October's shutdown then will be closed again to complete the work.
  • Work has started to connect Platform 6 into the Fremantle Line tunnel

I noticed last week that some trains coming in from the Armadale/Thornlie line were shunted over to platform 9 to terminate as well. They had to use the Midland line platform at McIver station in order to do so

Refurbished Platform 4 is going well, and the Joondalup line dive is nearly fully covered now.

Running 6 months ahead of schedule...

That will only disrupt buses though. Trains will still run just fine

They probably won't complain so much about buses. Although that statement can only be proven or disproven once work starts to sink Wellington Street busport
