    Thank you very much for the update Gauntlet. Yes, it would be nice to see a third or even 4th platform, but, alas "Not in the scope of the project" is an all too familiar phrase uttered these days. Keep up the good work!

    I went to Springvale on Monday and noticed a few more concrete beams above the cutting on the up side.
    There's seven low ones near Springvale Rd and five higher ones near Buckingham Ave.
    Maybe they'll build some shops above the tracks.

    Hello, I pass through here frequently and stop by to take photos seeing as I've waited for this project for ages, and I thought I'd share with you guys. I went up to take photos of the progress last Friday (sorry about the quality, the photos were taken on my phone :3). They've started building the station building from scratch as opposed to building them offsite



    Looks like they've gotten most of the station floor in place, I'm speculating the stairs and maybe the lifts will go in the smaller fenced off area




    This was taken on the temporary pedestrian bridge to platform 2, looking up. You can see they've cemented the ground under the station, which would suggest that they've bottomed out the trench around the station area. Sadly the temporary bracers are blocking the view. Nothing of interest has changed looking down from here since Gauntlet's post.



    I went down the small driveway west of the crossing since it's a shared zone, and could get right up to the wall and take photos. Here you can see under the overpass, and you can see another view of the concrete they laid on the ground, and what appears to be some (temporary?) supports holding up the station building. When I first saw the concrete pillars going across the trench I was hoping they were going to build some shops over the rails, but after thinking about it and seeing the temporary bracers appear immediately after, it's probably just permanent bracers for the trench walls, though they weren't in the concept video.



    And finally here's the view up from the same spot. More temporary bracers.



    I took these pics a few days earlier, this one is from the pedestrian overpass. I wonder how they're going to connect the new tracks..



    And this was the progress on the second road overpass on the eastern side, though it's a bit hard to see anything



    Not sure how many people have seen it, but there was an article posted earlier in the month stating that this project was halfway through http://dandenong.starcommunity.com.au/journal/2013-12-09/half-way-across/

    Interestingly enough, it mentions a time lapse camera recording everything Very Happy

    You could say - "nothing to see here, please move on" at present! On the subject of amplification - Box Hill Pl. 4(?) has had a lot of use......

    Amplification Is not part of this project !

    The disused platform at Box Hill was used during the construction of the shopping centre, when the shopping centre entrance to the new underground station was opened, the platform was taken out of use and the tracks and overhead wires removed (as there was no need for It, It's a ghost platform now)

    I haven't been able to travel down this way for a while (due to not needing to travel down that way - school holidays). Just wondering what progress has been made? I understand this project isn't being as well documented as Mitcham due to this project not being as advanced.

    When I visited the site last week it seemed that things hadn't changes since [color=#333333][size=3][font='Open Sans', Calibri, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Ranissir[/font][/size][/color] took those pics a few weeks ago.
    I noticed a few developments today.
    More shotcrete was being applied up of the level crossing (I must take some pics from the train next time).
    Significant progress has been made to the station building.

    And they've started laying concrete where the platforms and track will go.

    Gauntlet when is this project due for completion and will they because of freight traffic open the new cutting up in stages? (eg. Relocate platform 2 into the cutting and demolishing the old platform, then doing the same to the citybound platform)

    it"ll be completed by late 2014.

    By the looks of It, as much of the new station will be built (all the platforms) wile the existing station/line Is In full use.

    New tracks would be layed through the new station and during a shutdown (like a whole long weekend) the new trackwork will be connected In to the network all In one go.

    One the overhead wires are all back In working order, trains could resume, running though the new station.

    The old tracks and station could then be demolished.

    While checking today's video from the train I noticed that in the cutting up from Springvale Road there is two layers of shotcrete from just before the temporary bracers to the third shorter concrete truss.


    It's hard to tell if there has been much progress with the structure at street level.



    Looking up from the temporary overpass (which is 2/3 along the platform) the bottom layer of concrete has been extended, pipes have been laid, and a second layer has been started.



    In the other direction they've excavated part of the cutting it to what may be it's maximum depth.



    Down from the station they haven't excavated that much earth, but the future road over the cutting is progressing well.

    There is provision for more tracks, look at this photo of the current end result that will occur when it fist opens:




    Now look at this photo, the plaza has been replaced with train tracks along  Lightwood Road.

    This confirms what I said in December when I said I got a reply from Vic Raoads which said track amplification has been taken into account.

    The concept view of the of the 4 tracks looks a bit wako with the platforms and a kiss 'n' ride car park / bus terminal over the top of the tracks.

    Maybe they plan for the 3rd and 4th track to be platform less express tracks.

    I'm sure that extended roof will block a lot of rain haha, although I suppose that's a quick mockup. Did they send you that render in the reply? Anyway time for my second post on this forum, stopped by to take some photos on my way to gym. Sorry about the quality of the photos, they were taken on my phone

    Looking east from the platform 2 pedestrian bridge, you can see they've broken through under the second road overpass, and the concrete below the bridge seems to be fresh, with a no-walking sign in the bottom right corner of the photo


    I went onto the platform and noticed they put a small window for people to look through. You can see where the fresh concrete starts on the right.

    Looking towards the city (west) you can see lots of workers today, working on what looks like a second layer of concrete to cover some pipes. I'm guessing those two metal lines are drains that feed water into the drainage pipe below

    The station building looks like it has progressed, and scaffolding is somewhat in place

    I think they have always had the idea of running a standard gauge line via Dandenong to Westernport. This would explain the extra lines without platforms. I wonder if anyone can confirm if this is the case?

    That would make for some very Interesting planning for the rail corridor between Clayton and Spencer Street Station / West Melbourne, where the line side real estate becomes very limited.

    This would be where Melbourne Metro comes in to play, although it'd only work if it went all the way to Caulfield as originally planned.

    Outer circle perhaps? Very ambitious thought one would say!
    If SG was to be laid, it would more likely be dual gauge from Caulfield as DG limit is 80 kph. and I don't think the line speed in that section would be any higher than that.

    I took a few more photos today.
    Looking down from the pedestrian bridge it seems like the first layer of concrete will be poured soon.


    This is the view looking up.


    At the moment the station building seems to be in four sections, but it will end up under one roof.
    From the other side of Springvale Road this is the part in the left.


    And this is on the right.

    Why do people think Springvale would ever need more than two platforms?

    The purpose of four tracks would be to supply express services - none of the stations between Dandenong and Oakleigh would require more than two platforms.

    They've started work on the platforms at the Springvale Road end of the station.


    And the concrete continues to be poured down from the pedestrian overpass.


    At street level the four buildings are getting insulation and electrical wiring. One of them is getting covered in blue plastic, which (according to it's label) probably has cement sheet product underneath.

    And to answer ZH836301 comment, Springvale has been a stopping location for nearly every express service Metro and their predecessors have run. So I don't see this arrangement changing any time soon.
