Can anyone enrich an old man's knowledge as to its history and even the makeup of the train?
Did it venture onto all tracks and did it go interstate?
Are there any photos out there?
Altona Primary school grade 6 had a week excursion in 1969, I know I was on it!! It was old Overland stock with a T up the front. Picked us up from the old Galvin station, even had film crews there....mum said she saw herself on the TV news that night...(well her back half anyway apparently). We went down to Warrnambool via Geelong, then along the cross country line to Hamilton at 20 MPH, Ararat, Ballarat and then home via Geelong. much of which would be impossible today
we ate, drank, slept, showered on the train and at each of the stops there was some sort of excursion. unfortunately cameras for kids where not readily available at the time so i have no photos from the trip only same fading memories.
