All,

Bit of an improvement this month, as far as rail traffic observations go,
compared to last month....

Somewhat of a 'ZB' party at Boyer this morning (also present from last
night).

2122, 2123 & 2128

stabled, Boyer station yard, 0655h.

I would guess that the last time three 'ZB's were at Boyer at the same time
was the last time they worked in, heading either 31/32 or 43/44? Which would
have been a few years ago now!

All,

Some interesting observations during the month, with the new Brighton Rail Hub at Rogerville starting to influence operations:

******************************************************************************************************************************************
Saturday 4th May 2013:

A particularly unusual sighting this morning;

2004+2002 & T. # 631* [32W (inc. 15 x 60'ers)]
via Ravenswood, 0702h.
via Marshlands, 0706h.

2011+2007 & T. # 764 [17W (all M/T 'FEP' class log wagons)]
stop Granton, 0755 - 0759h.
via Bridgewater, 0806h.
via Rogerville, 0813h.
arr. Brighton Hub yard, 0817h.

2122+2128, stabled at the Hub 'One Spot' (2123 back at Boyer)

[* The strange time of the observation of 631 was apparently due to the train being terminated at the Brighton Hub last night, with the locos shuttling it to Boyer this morning being ex 633]

************************************************************************************************************************************************
Sunday 5th May 2013:

Noted at work this morning;

2020+2051+2012+2008 & T. # 731
stabled Boyer, 0650h. (D.V. main @ station)
2123 station yard.

************************************************************************************************************************************************
Sunday 12th May 2013:

This morning, I encountered (for me) a modern day record number of locomotives present in my local area;

2052+2053+2054 & T. # 731
stabled, Boyer (D.V. main @ station), 0700h.
2123, stabled station yard.

2122+2128, 2133+2100, 2007+2138, 2132+2011
stabled, Brighton Hub 'One Spot', 0740h.

2002+2101+2137+2021 & T. # 735 [33W (inc. 8 x 60'ers)]
via Tea Tree, 0724h.
via Brighton, 0733h.
via Rogerville, 0738h.
via Bridgewater, 0745h.
via Granton, 0750h.
via Claremont, 0759h.
via Berriedale, 0804h.

15 locos in one morning, close to home, is quite something to see - though, judging from recent reports, it is well short of the recent modern day record of 19, set a few weeks ago.

    Long sought after by the DVR, the opportunity presenteditself late last year when Tasrail circulated an urgent request for expressions of interest for its removal. DVR's EOI was successful.

    DVR intend to use it to store paints and flammable materials- continuing its original purpose.

    Thanks are extended to Tasrail for the opportunity to obtainit.

    First item of attention was to strip out its false woodenfloor which had been retaining moisture, causing severe corrosion to its underlying steel floor and base of the body. One and a half 44 gallon drums of rust were removed from underneath the wooden floor. Next task is a paint job.

    Photos of its delivery are on the DVR Facebook site. See: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Derwent-Valley-Railway-Tasmania/125404400859782

    Friday14th February 2014:

    The latest acquisitions by the DVR include:
    Gang Motors, WG26 and WG43. Both obtained from the long defunctCasey's Steam Museum in Dover.
    Unfortunately, due to many years of storage in the open weather,they are in very poor condition. WG26 has no roof or ends left at all, whilst WG43 has part of its front and part of its roof missing. They have been delivered to New Norfolk.
    Currently awaiting pickup from a transport depot in Launceston,is self propelled rail sleeper crane, SHC3.
    Although looking decidedly shabby, it was successfully startedand is quite operable. It is exactly the same as the crane currently stored at the Tasrail Hub at Brighton (SHC4), which is allocated to the TTMS.

    Saturday 29th March 2014:

    Some unusual observations this morning;

    2002+2021 & T. # 633 [29W (inc. 18 log & (see notes below))]
    via Bridgewater, 0703h. (running very late)
    stop Granton, 0710 - 0716h. (Track Warrant)
    via Claremont, 0729h.
    via Berriedale, 0735h.

    Note (1): Observed in the consist of 633 were some veryunusual wagons - for a South Line train - new Railton cement wagon, THFY001-G and new Melba Line ore wagons, TOMY0039-S & TOMY0040-Y. They have come down for a publicity event at Brighton 'Hub', nevertheless it is quite bizarre to see West Coast ore wagons and a Railton - Devonport cement hopper going into Hobart! More than likely the first visit ever of a Melba Line ore wagon to Hobart although there are reports of one of the older Railton cement wagons coming to Hobart some years ago.

    Meanwhile, following behind was;
