Wanderer53: Please stop spam bombing

  alexjc Deputy Commissioner

As with other threads on Railpage, wanderer53 has effectively destroyed all coversational topics and debates on the NZ and O section.
This is caused by his over the top constant posting of articles in a repetitous manor due to multiple media coverage on a particular topic.
Attempts to discuss and debate toics are drowned out by these, sometimes long winded, articles.
Wanderer53, you probably think you are doing a service, but you're not...You get mentioned on NZ Railways FB pages and pretty much in the same vain as I have mentioned here. It is hard to engage other enthusiastic members on topics when conversations are drowned out by Spam bombing. YES post a reported article, but not multiples times because other news sources have done so as well.
Cheers.

Sorry, have you never heard of the Private Message function to communicate such statements to either the man himself or the forum administrators?

Alex firstly the face book groups are not the target audience for these postings. They generally have heard these stories long before they are in print and I cannot compete with that.

As for multiple postings about the same story, yes I do and I try to only do so where more is added to the subject although I do admit that on occassions I do post effectively the same article from different sources by mistake. There are those who would have me post more just as there are those who would have me post less. I know this from those who contact me and believe me there have been quite a lot who have and there are also a few who would like to see me stop altogether. You may be surprised by the readership, as it includes Journalists from an international broadcaster down to a Canadian construction magazine. Yes these postings may be looked down on by the Face Book groups but are welcomed in other quarters.

As for drowning out any atempt at a debate, look at how many responces you have received from the number of viewings to this thread even though I have left it unanswered for a day. Those who used to debate here moved on to the Campaign for better transport forum although I note that that has gone relatively quite in recent times.

Against my better judgement, What exactly are you on about? The request was pretty straightforward. If you think posting the same thing over and over is clever, you are in the minority.

From my seat, it appears as though you are the only one complaining. That doesn't look like a minority to me.

Oh, it's a minority alright - the ones complaining about wanderer53.

There are those of us who silently appreciate his postings. I've found some of his finds for places like Malaysia quite interesting. Sure, some people don't like it, but even if you baked cookies and handed them out for free, somebody would find something to object to, such as using imported flour rather than local flour, or something equally inane.

Two people seem to want to have a sook, fine. They have a right to complain about whatever they damn well please. Everyone has a right to speak, but not everyone speaks right.

I have disscussed this with moderators...not as a complaint though...and with wanderer53 to a less extent.
Its not the reporting that is the issue...Its the REPEAT ARTICLES. You try to get a comment and discussion going but then, Wham, wanderer53 drops another one or two versions of the same topic because of him finding it on different news sources.
I'm only focussing on NZ and O as I used to enjoy conversation and debate with fellow countrymen on what has been an amazing decade of rail growth. As for being a "minority" complainant here, maybe because many others have left to join the many FB threads on Kiwirail and NZ railway history which dont allow spambombing...and this is the reason why.

With all due repect to wanderer53, I have had many enjoyable debates and discussions with him.

Prehaps if he does find a variation of a reported article he could post that variation alone as an add on to the orignal?

Meanwhile very little engaugement with others here looks likely if looking at the NZ and O threads are anything to go by.

if a poll is being taken. They drive me crazy also but I see no point in complaining.
I love international train travel but am unlikely to find any worthwhile information in say the posts on Croatia (where I went this year) as I could not care less about the latest contract for wheel flanges I might find there.
I asked several years ago for a forum where we could post and make practical requests about international train travel but was ignored.
Trip advisor is more usefull (as well as man in seat 61)

Apparently the justification for continual repetitive posts is "some-one important" might read one of them.

WANDERER HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!!

This time dropped in an article over ten months old on the Rail Ferries page in the NZ and O section as relevant TODAY news totally disrupting the time flow of issues with the beleaugered Aratere. (Its temporary replacement arrived in Wellington two days ago). WANDERER, stop it!!!!

Out of curiosity I had a look at what the issue is with Wanderer, you are correct and well within your rights to complain, the individual is over the top. The stupid part (apart from him) is his justification as noted above, all he is doing is cutting and pasting out any rail related story out of publications and news services, but does he realise that all government and most if not all big business employ a person/people or someone has the job to scan all such publications in the interest of the departments/companies demographic, the "some one important" has already seen the stories he posts. I believe he is on a bit of self importance trip, actually, he's on a huge trip.
I could perhaps appreciate any genuine railway related story that may be of interest and not necessarily heard about thru other channels, but he is posting everything and then multiple times as well, I do see why you complain.

alexjc, how's about, instead of doing a "look at me, I'm gonna stick the boot up someone's smeg for little reason", perhaps you could do the following:

1. Simply ignore posts from Wanderer53 that don't fit your criteria, or ....
2. Tell the mods in an appropriate manner that his posts are nothing relevant to the discussion.

By making this thread, you've pretty much made yourself look like an absolute goose. And for what? To prove a point that someone is annoying you?

If there are posting rules then it's up to the poster to follow them. I'm Ok with no rules but if you choose to offer character assessments then you would probably need a pretty thick skin.
