Thanks for the photos I_Know_Nothing have been waiting for what seems like years for some decent shots of the New Locos being an old Tassy boy.

I thought Y8 was just a hulk, probably a parts donor for the other Y (Y6?) at DRR.

I remember many, many moons ago - 1988, Y8 was on its way to Launceston to repair the fan motor gearbox, It was held at Western Junction because of flooding of the line between StLeonards Rd and the Inveresk Railway workshops. The next day it was used to tow CCS 25 back to Western Junction which had become trapped in floodwaters during a test run of this locomotive. Y8 never ran again after this.
The motor out of Y8 was overhauled an put in Y6.

Whilst Y8 is currently a sadly stripped hulk and parts donor, I hope it doesn't follow U1 and ZC32 to the scrappers, as Y8 is one of the most historical locos in Tasmania - being the very final locomotive built in Tasmania at the Launceston Railway Workshops.

I would like to see Y8, eventually cosmetically restored and put on a plinth in front of Launceston Workshops with plaques denoting its historical status.

Sending Y8 to scrap would be one of the most callous acts of heritage destruction in the history of the state - so hopefully those persons with control over its fate will have sufficient conscience not to allow such an occurrence to take place and when it is finally deemed surplus, is offered to one of the local preservation groups at Launceston Workshops.

I don't think scrapping is on the cards.
Are you talking East Tamar workshops?
Y 8's bogies were swapped with those of Y2's

Thats good. No I was referring to Inveresk. Would be good if the DRR Inveresk Dvsn. could adopt it. (along with M3, MA4 and CCS23!!!)

We can dream, most of the parts are there but need a lot of recon before using and most consumables replaced! But would be nice at inveresk

Your not wrong. Last time i looked at E1, it was painted in a dark green and was before the fence went up around it.

Such a shame the owners won't budge on letting a proper custodian look after it.

If it was a person it would have been put in protective custody by now.
It's been through several floods and now its been caged in so badly you can bearly see the poor thing.

Tasrail CEO says he is getting rid of the old clunkers, he is in fact keeping the old, old, old clunkers.

Some shots from my recent and very brief trip to Tassie.  Will be back in late April, I am expecting some things to have changed quite a bit by then.
