    More pretty stuff and recent weathering work.

    Heljan class 33 and Hornby vans lead a BR Southern Region all-green train over the viaduct



    Another class 33 bursts out of Nansglaw Tunnel but fails to attract the attention of nearby walkers



    Steam isn't forgotten - Bulleid light Pacific "West Country" class is still loved if careworn in its latter days



    And 37521 "English China Clays" is living up to its name having acquired a fair coating of the white stuff



    Just enough weathering on 1662 which carries a famous name and a little grime



    Finally I don't seem to have posted this one here before.  Two matched 37s lead the weathered Polybulks through Treheligan after dark

    Over the past few years I have been SLOWLY been rebuilding my layout into a larger room and adding on a couple of extra areas to use all the available space.
    The final trackwork is down (but not ballasted) and now I am in the process of putting in the landscaping and buildings and wiring.

    It is taking me years but now that I have finished restoring my 1958 Ford Customline, I can spend some time back on the layout.
    I started ballasting last night.
    2 years ago I started changing it over to DCC and bought all the NCE gear to do it.
    Then last year I had a change of heart and rearranged some track so I could run 3 tracks on DC so it will stay "old school" now.
    It is based on German and Austrian rail with the locos and rolling stock Roco and Rivarossi.

    Nice bit of gear you have there in the photos. A question though, presuming the 500 is Oz rail, what are they like? I have heard different reports on them but I wouldn't mind a 500 shunter.

    The Ozrail 500 looks the part from a metre away, but closer inspection you notice that the resin body doesn't deliver the fine detail, and the pilots and side walkways are warped on mine, hot water has helped but its still there. It does run quite well at slow speed on DC, I've yet to convert it to DCC. Would I buy a second one?- not for the price, but I'm glad I bought one, and it's better than not having a 500!

    I also have an Ozrail 500 and have much the same comments as Streamliner above. It runs well at low speed but the body needs a bit of hot water work to bring it into line.

    I happened across a very cheap 1st gen digitrax decoder that I could reprogram with a 'diesel' sound set that I installed to somewhat hide the drive train noise; my 500 at least is a bit noisier than the BLI SW7 mech I chopped to pieces to put under the old BGB 800 shell.

    Goodness me it's been a long time since anyone was here!  

    I've built an all-new N-gauge mini-layout since the last post, taken it from Melbourne to the UK for an exhibition and brought it back.  My first venture into the smaller scale had to fit inside a travel bag and pushed to the limit the flex in flexi-track and the ability of rolling stock to get round it.







    Meanwhile in the backyard the permanent layout has had a new laserlite roof built to replace an old, frail and leaking GRP sheet one which was so thickly covered in lichen that very little light got through.  The new one has taken things to the other extreme but allows the enjoyment of moments and scenes such as these.
