I notice the "old voice" (doors closing) is gradually coming back.... the last 3 days of the last working week, all my trains were chimed with the old voice!! much preferable!

The other day, I heard Grant Goldman's "Stand clear, doors closing" on one of the refurbished Tangaras. Couldn't catch the set number.

I thought he was phased out ages ago.

I liked the Grant voice over's. I like the lady aswell.. But find Grant much more affective when it comes to the actual announcements on the trains. Not sure why this is. But when it comes to voice overs on trains. I would prefer Grant.

Grant Goldman was also the ground announcer at Brookvale Oval for the Local NRL Team.

Also has an extensive career in radio to boot.

I'd probably say the new voice isn't "demanding" enough then Grant's voice.

The new voice sounds like it is saying "please,oh pretty please stand clear, the doors will close now", whereas Grant Goldman's voice is like "stand clear, NOW"

Taylor Owynns, The female voice of CityRail (She also does a lot of ABC work and is one of the voices for the Bananas in Pyjamas) is awful.

The general trend worldwide is to go for a female voice for information announcements and for commands and emergency info, to go for a male voice as generally speaking, The male voice commands more authority.

In Melbourne we've completely done away with the male auto announcements altogether.

That's some of her work.

What they need is a girl with a voice like this:

Or we could have Kristina's voice now she has less to do.
She just has a problem saying "Emu Plains"

Taylor Owynns also does the voiceover at Parramatta Stadium before Eels home games, welcoming you to the event and reminding you about evacuation procedures

Standing on the down escalator this morning at Circular Quay the recorded announcement "Please keep a firm hold of children" is heard

Feral mother standing a couple of steps down ( who IS holding her young child's hand )  says "F**k that ! They gotta learn sometime" and proceeds to quickly drag the child down the moving escalator  Rolling Eyes

Funny from the point of view that Feral Mother seemed quite happy to stand until hearing the  recorded announcement ( no recording is going to tell her what to do )   ..... unfunny as the poor child could easily have tripped

Unintened reverse psychology !

Female voices are usually used in industry as they have found the usual majority male workforce pay more attention. The higher pitched female voices are also usually easier to hear in industrial noisey environments.

When I did Air Traffic Control give me a female pilot any day when on the edge of the reception area, one pilot was particularly high pitched and it would almost make your hair stand up. I've also noticed the same in QR when scaning in CQ, there is a female controller and she comes through crystal clear.

For the record, Dubai Metro is male.

I know this is an old thread, but I just have a question about Taylor Owynns. If she actually recorded all those announcements (and that must have taken ages!) how do things like this emerge?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29vakj_Ev4U

I would have thought it would be impossible to get her to say things that weren't part of the recordings for CityRail/whatever it is now. Does anyone know how this works?
  Kamz Assistant Commissioner

Someone has edited parts of her recordings to make sentences such as "Shut up ya face"
