well I now have more questions:

1) why did the NRM post anything about an incident on their Facebook?
2) if they did then why are we all sticking up for them by concealing it like the secret service?

That I can answer, the NRM was evacuated on Friday as per normal operating procedures on ANY worksite in SA, IF any anomaly is discovered, which was the case in this instance

Thanks for the update alcoworldseries. When posts like that read on Facebook are indeed made questions will eneviabley flow particularly from the railfan community.

The various users in this thread now have an update and we all understand the incident was not rail related. We all hope the weekend was a success. There would not be a user on this site who would not want the NRM to be as successful as it deserves and has the ability to be.

The "mindless discussion" on this thread came about because of two reasons.

Firstly it was Heath who raised the issue; apparently not a highly regarded contributor.

Secondly because the issue had been made public on Facebook, but then no reason was forthcoming in response to reasonably intelligent questions.

Thankfully Alcows you redeemed the situation by your post relating to evacuation.

The evacuation could have been on account of a fire event, chemical spill or gas leak not rail operations related.
But the event could have been a low water incident on one of the steam locos risking boiler explosion for which site evacuation would be prudent. Such an incident is rail operations related and of interest to the rail community.

I leave any further speculation to others.

Well said Ian.

The topic was obviously started by a known troublemaker, and worded in such a way as to provoke outrage. This obviously worked, as nobody likes to see hard working volunteers have their reputation for safety dragged through the dirt, especially by the OP. The matter has been resolved, nicely summed up by Ian above, and the issue is over.

Raichase,

I think that for all his issues I don't believe that Heath falls under the category of 'Troll' and I also don't think that he is a troublemaker. I just think that he is possibly a little bit simple and quite possibly a lot naïve (a lot).
It is good to have a healthy degree of optimism but maybe Heath does go a little too far but I think that is a preferable to the few nay-sayers here (who probably don't even know who they are)

Heath did not troll by asking a legitimate question. Why should be be singled out as someone who should not hae posted some legitimate news. Astounding.

There is a news item on the front page about corruption in the public transport planning department.

Should that have been posted ?

Sorry guys but why are we attacking a young man who decided to post something of interest ?

I thought Railpage had moved forward ?  Certainly lately the site has been a dream to tea and post. Let's keep it that way.

i didn't know anything about the incident until I saw it posted on the NRM Facebook page.

Furthermore. I am NOT trying to defame the NRM volunteers who do an amazing job with rail preservation in this state. I just wanted answers out of curiosity.

so I think you can all sh*t up about what I have or haven't done as im just trying to raise a point of interest.

For your information; the user in question has a habit of doing this, and was banned quite a few times by Railpage Moderators within the last year, of which I was one at the time. I cannot fathom how he has been allowed to re-join the forums after the trouble he caused last time. Yes, he is a sufferer of the autism spectrum, but I don't discriminate. He's smart enough to know better, and in my opinion shouldn't be allowed near a computer without supervision.

Irrelevent. Loxton is after a reaction, and he got it. He could have asked on Facebook, but came here after he didn't get what he wanted there. It's a bit like a child asking their mother if they can go to a party. When Mum says no, they try their father hoping to get what they want from him. It's an attempt at being sneaky, and he got caught out. Don't encourage him.

I'm interested to know if you took your pills today. Signs are pointing to 'No'.

Hang on, are you some sort of moderator? No? Then shut up, and let the real mods do their job. Stop trying to be some quasi-try-hard police officer. I agree with Raichase, alcoworldseries, and steam4ian. This is the type of thread which drags this place down, and it's people like you who encourage it to continue. It's any wonder the place is dying a slow death, and decent contributers are leaving in droves.

Aaah yes.

I lurk here from time to time, and seldom feel the need to log in. This is, as Bill Shakespeare said, more in sorrow than in anger. I miss what we've lost.

I've also stood by while periodic attacks on other rail sites online (such as mine) have been promulgated by folks without a clue. This idle standing by is set to change. Not on my account (personally, I take attacks by morons as a positive), but on the account of the good and knowledgeable people who have sought greener pastures.  I don't like seeing those good men slandered.

Sad that RP went with a whimper.

hi everyone,
I am not simply "wombling on" in order to get a reaction or cause trouble with other valued Railpage users.

as I have said before I just saw something with the word "incident" in my Facebook news feed and I wanted to know what was going on. so I asked on here as I know people on here have connections to or work at the NRM.

furthermore. cant the older Railpage users sit back and accept the younger inexperienced ones who could potentially take over the rail positions left. this site should be where experience meets enthusiasm. which is what I show!

I had a discussion with a management person at NRM. The word serious has not been used by them....and it was not a rail safety related incident. I'm told as the NRM Facebook is extremely popular they simply wanted to get the word out to their "paying public" that the museum was open for the weekend....
Top Cat

So someone asked a question that others cannot answer.  That reason for the facebook was as stated above, to let people know the place was open.

We expect people to ask questions regarding  a topic , be it a "incident" or want to know the progress of loco xxxx. Wanting to know  and finding out are not linked. As said in the past those who know already have done so. And for many it may be something they have no interest in passing on, or the organisation discourages.

Since it is expected we just have to simply say so, and  most should accept that there is no one on this website prepared to answer them. End of story, move on. if people post information, great.

I think we have talked long enough.

And for those asking for a thread to be locked, use the report post  button for that, not post within.
