Austrains G Class Diesel Loco - Upcoming 81 / G / BL

    Are these units shipping DCC with sound or DCC only?

    Several years ago I installed a loksound ESU EMD chip into a Powerline G class. Works well.

    Austrains initially were offering them with factory sound but have since had a change of mind and anyone who paid in full for factory sound models gets a $100 refund.

    Actually if you check the QSI site you will find Austrains did not choose to "change their mind" at all Sad

    QSI have been in trouble for a few years. The only reason Eureka had chips was because they had them put aside from a previous model. People are reporting their R Class chips are marked for another model. Seems Eureka just reloaded the chip with new sounds (my guess of course)

    The end result might be the same but your post was not fair to Austrains, as they never did change their mind. QSI failed to honour the agreement and Austrains had no option other than notifying us that QSI sound was now not available.

    Hi all, the wait really is over. Just collected my Pac Nat 81 from the post office. There was no confirmation of details letter or e-mail. The updates I'd e-mailed previously were used & my card was debited on Friday. I will take photos soon & post. First impressions are great paintwork & all detailing items seem to be intact with none loose. But will compare it to my Powerline one more closely.

    Hi all
    I rang Austrains on 5 August, and I was told my PL cars had been sent on Monday and I did get them 12 August. At the time I was told my G Class and NQR Candy 81 Class details were verified and he would need to hit the Bank Account for them the next Thursday (14 August). He said by then he should be finished posting all the verified pre-ordered PL's. He is very keen to sell at the two Exhibitions next weekend, after delivering all pre-orders. My loco order has not arrived as of yesterdays mail.

    Don't forget if you attend Caulfield, Austrains reminded me, their is secret model being released. It is a VR model and the only clue is they are no longer in service but 80's and earlier modellers are going to love them. They ran main and branch lines and were very useful things indeed. When I suggested a ZL he said, No, not a ZL. Wish somebody would do ZL's Sad

    Hi all, I received my 3 G class, 1 BL class and 2 81s on Saturday the 16/08/14. I had fully paid for my loco back in 2009. I'm very happy with all of them.

    I would not rely on assumption. I'd ring/email and find out.

    With any order I place with Austrains I always check my credit card statement to make sure the deposit has been taken out.

    In my opinion the Austrains version is a huge improvement. The lighting seems prototypical, with illuminated number boxes and marker lights and it runs smoothly too. I'll still be checking mine in more detail.

    Note the Freightrail 81 is Powerline with a brass mech and the Pacific National 81 is the Austrains version.

    What's with the yellow porthole window behind the drivers cab on the first photo?

    Includes the prototypical internal wiring in the cab also!

    Other than that, looks good.

    Not usually a nitpicker but it's hard to miss one glaring error. Besides no cab detail the stripe along the side of the PN version is wrong. The blue comes down further than what they've done, to pretty much sit where it does on the FC version.     But were they all painted the same or are there differences between the various class members. Would really need to see a photo of 8150 in real life for the definitive comparison.

    Well, I would bloody well hope so. The Powerline model is 25 years old! The real comparison should be between the Austrains model and todays Auscision and Traino models. And on that score with the lack of any cab detail its somewhat of a letdown. This was promoted as being the "ultimate 81". While I accept that this situation is probably not the fault of JE and Austrains, its still disappointing. Part of me is pleased I missed out on my candy 81s because even @ $250 each, I suspect I would not have been pleased with the final product.

    Info readily available on the internet...who knew, heck a short trip from Putney to Clyde UP yard would have confirmed the paint scheme

    Perhaps a further disappointment for some after such a long wait....

    Got my 9 in the mail today, a few bits and pieces broken off but overall very happy. Stripe is wrong on both FC and PN versions of the 81, bit of paint and weathering should do the trick though.

    G'day gomer,

    I notice that the FR/FC blue 81 has the Freightcorp logos and i'm guessing that they are supplied that way?

    Bit disappointing to see the FC line work is wrong also; shame that what will probably be their last new loco delivery didnt allow them to go out with a bang.
