Both types run between Midland and Kwinana of the dual gauge freight lines.

The CBH trains unload in Kwinana at the grain loop or in Forrestfield The MRL trains run to Kwinana to unload ore for export.

You can see both by waiting at Midland just East of the old station site and sooner or later an empty or loaded train run by both organisations will run past.

The grain loop at Kwinana is a good place to see CBH trains. Aurizon used to split their MRL trains at Forrestfield, but I don't know where that occurs now.

The MRL locos/trains run on the main eastern goldfields line from Kwinana through Midland to the Carina mine loadout east of Koolyanobbing. The CBH SG locos run on the same line as far as Southern Cross, and the NG locos run on the same line, then head out to various other lines, such as the Moora line from Millendon Junction, the Miling line from West Toodyay, the grain lines out of Northam to Mukinbudin, Beacon and Kalannie, the southern main line to Narrogin and Albany, the Hyden line and Newdegate line out of Wagin.

Nothing for either set of locos/trains south of Kwinana on the southwest main, and depending on when you are coming over, the guys from Watco should be taking over the Perenjori ore haulage soon through to Geraldton. Not sure on what locos they will be using though.

Edit - beaten by M636, and should have noted you were interested in Perth viewing!

The MRL fleets run straight thru to AIS now, as the roads have been extended to allow for two locos and 116 hoppers in with the locos just running around the consist.
As MRL / Pat Nat can't access the yard at Kwinana to run around the triangle, as it is Aurizon owned, and they don't want to pay the access fee.
