Are you really suggesting the new railway station at Epsom should make money?

It should be cheaper than the alternative, which it isn't.

There is no problem with this station; if the Echuca line gets more trains. One a day is madness. But the Govt will wait until the election to announce extra daily trains. Apparently most of the crossings on this line have now been upgraded.

I had a look at the station site today. Just earth works at present:

Thank you for sharing those photos.

How long is the construction expected to take ?

Neither will the other two on the platforms.

The new station at Epsom will be serviced by the Echuca trains .

PLUS  the previously announced intention is that alternate  Bendigo trains will originate/terminate at  Eaglehawk and Epsom .

The Shadow Minister of Transport has been asked to follow up re late (over a year overdue) completion of Echuca Line boom barrier project, and why the promised increase of line speed to 100kmh for DMU  has not occurred.  To date (two months after contacted) the Shadow Minister has still not replied.  Does not seem at all interested.

The Riverine Herald and people at Echuca should be rattling the bars a bit more on this issue.

At Epsom the gutter for the car park has been done.

At Eaglehawk there are some markings spray painted on the ground near the soon to be upgraded pedestrian crossing, and no change to the down end of the platform. I think it's strange that they don't extend the platform sooner since the platform is so short the 3:45 to Southern Cross has to be split and reconnected at Bendigo.

I might write a letter to my local MPs.  One of the problems with the Murray-Goulburn region is a lack of media diversity....

There's been quite a bit of progress with the platform at Epsom over the past five weeks, but I don't think they'll finish it before the election.
Are those concrete foundations being poured in the foreground - if so, what could they be for?

As for Eaglehawk, I would not have started work on extending the platform by laying a gravel path for VLocity drivers.

The government hinted at an April 2015 timetable change when the 20-minute service to Geelong was announced. Perhaps the completion of Epsom station is due around this time?

Grosso, does the DOI have a standard set of railway station designs and merely chooses a design to fit the purpose and location or are all new railway stations designed from the ground up?

Hi Guys,

A bit of an update on the Epsom station. The platform works looks almost complete with the fencing and station shelter well on the way. I'm not sure when it's expected to be complete, but it's progressing fairly quick. The car park still needs surfacing etc.

Here is a photo taken on the 10-09-2014.

cheers Al

Hope the platform can handle the numbers, boarding the One Train A Day to Echuca!

Epsom station is for the people that want a seat on the train and a parking spot. Bendigo carpark is filling up and can not be extended. Should save 2 mins for boarding at Bendigo but loose 5 mins for slowing down to a stop and boarding at Epsom unless train will be express Bendigo-Castlemaine-Gisborne-Sunshine or Bendigo-Sunshine. Its got to be an election stunt.

The current morning Up service from Echuca sits at Bendigo station for 10 minutes (0835-0845) before it lumbers off to Melbourne.

Epsom station could be a good location for the Bendigo Cup charter train in October that occasionally runs.

Looking at the proposed times above, half of the weekday services are Up and Down Echuca trains.  Similar for the weekend too.

Bevans, i believe so, however they can change as per job.
Reasons being due to a geotechnical investigation showing that the ground moves x amount of mm per year so a different design is required... But for all platform extensions that we've completed, there is a standard drawing that we follow which is a really good design in my opinion Exclamation
By the looks of the one photo i can see, it looks very similar to the platform extension design but i can't tell for sure :/

Official timetable here: http://www.vline.com.au/pdf/timetables/bendigo1.pdf

Hopefully with more rolling stock in the mix, Epsom will have a more regular service.  Note also that the arrival time at SCS for AM flagship has changed from 0725 to 0720.  About time!  Silly "elastic arrival time" between Kangaroo Flat and Bendigo remains.
