Flat bar roller

Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice. I am in the planning stages of my home 5" gauge railway. I've decided on using 25mm x 10mm flatbar for my rail (for compatibility with my existing Mini Train Systems track). I plan on buying the track construction kit from MTS to ensure compatibility.

I have been looking at flat bar rollers online. They all seem to be very expensive powered ones and the one affordable manual one I have found online only accepts 3mm, and I doubt I could push it to take 10mm.

Just wondering what others on here think about either buying (either from retail or see if I can get one made) at a reasonable price or if it's worth bending it during installation as I have seen done on various websites.

I am very new to all this so I apologise if this is a bit of a dumb question but I'd really like to do the best I can on my limited budget.

Thanks everyone in advance.

I got mine from the US (can't remember who at the moment, but will check on the weekend), and that does 25 x 10mm flat bar. He does them for either flat bar or west coast profile aluminium rail, with just a change in the rollers prior to shipping. Was about $125 including shipping, and it is a heavy bugger.

Edit - This is for a manual one, but very rugged and heavy duty. It came recommended from a lot of the guys over in the US that i talked to about them.

Hey Bulbous,

Thanks for the reply. If you could find out where you got it I would really appreciate it. $125 inc. postage sounds very good especially from the USA. May I ask where in Australia you had it shipped to? Just to see if it will work out the same. I'm in the Perth foothills and it always seems more expensive to ship to Perth for some reason!

And I'm very happy to have a manual one. That way I can take my time and get the bends right the first time.

I am in Swan View, so if you want to try mine out, you can come and borrow it if you like? Save you buying one sight unseen, and you can see if it suits your needs.

Thank you for the offer. I am a bit way off from getting started on it but if you could provide where you bought it and maybe an image I would appreciate it. If I do go ahead sooner rather than later I may just take up your offer

It's very much appreciated.
