Surprised this has not been mentioned, apparently this morning the east bound IP came apart and the trailing car carrier came to a stand near Rooty Hill, allegedly with a damaged auto on the Sydney end. The following V set was eventually coupled to the rear and propelled the wagon to Blacktown.

Noticed the car carrier at its usual spot at Central this morning. Whether it's related I'm not sure

Any confirmation it was the same car carrier that lost  its auto or was another found hiding in long grass somewhere rusted to the rails . Maybe the flying squad came out  to Blacktown & did a change over  &  the wagon was then taken in by engine only  to be then unloaded in the usual position beside platform 1 .

Related to this news I presume?

Police have closed down parts of Martin Place in Sydney's CBD after reports of a man in the area with a shotgun.
A police media spokeswoman confirmed officers are attending the scene and an operation was underway but could offer no further detail.

Actually W526 suffered a seized axle bearing on No 2 bogie under the last car. It was driven at 15 kph into No 1 platform at Katoomba to discharge passengers and then shunted into No 2 platform at Katoomba where the 1st four cars were seperated from the rear four. This allowed following trains to bypass the obstruction. The leading 4 cars were shunted into No 1 platform and formed a later run to the city.

The rear 4 cars were later driven at reduced speed to Lawson refuge after a pony bogie was placed under the defective bogie by the MFD crew.

The whole operation was handled brilliantly with minimal delays to passengers.
