Hi All,

On Track Models is pleased to announce our next Victorian model will be the Sprinter Railcar.

22 Sprinter Railcars were introduced into traffic between December 1993 and June 1995.

Cars 7001 - 7017 were introduced in the PTC Teal & Sunflower colour scheme, while cars 7018 - 7022 were released in the V/Line Red & Blue scheme.

Eventually all of the 22 cars were repainted to the V/Line Red & Blue scheme.

Sprinter 7019 was written off after an unfortunate incident in 1996.

In 2007 Sprinter 7007 was repainted into a trial V/Line Passenger scheme of Red, Grey, & Purple.

Minor changes to this scheme were introduced and the entire remaining fleet plus 7007 have been out shopped in this smart new livery.

Tooling has commenced on these models and the first samples are due late March / early April.

Features of these cars include all wheel pick-up / all wheel drive, detailed interior and drivers cabs, operational head, ditch, & marker lights. The cars will be internally lite with the destination board also illuminated.

The model will be sound ready with a 21 DCC plug supplied.

Expected delivery date for this exceptional model is towards the end of 2015.

Theses models will be marketed as a twin pack with both units powered.

Due the fluctuating Australian Dollar no price has been set as yet however order forms will be available around June.

All 4 colour schemes will be available with only a limited number packs produced.

Details of the packs will be available shortly.

That's good news.  Been waiting for a Sprinter for a while.

Can you give a rough idea of the price band that it will be in?

No mention of scale. I assume this is HO?

Brilliant so happy, getting my vlocity soon and then I'll have to start saving for one of these

One question though: it's says 4 liveries so I take it 7007 with the first new sprinter livery in 2007 is included??? As the v/line logo with capital letters and the one in lowercase are classified as the same livery???

Hi Parksider,

At this stage we don't have a final price as since we first had this quoted the dollar has fallen about 13c.

According to news reports they're expecting it to fall another 7 - 8c by mid year as our economy slows and the interest rate cuts are expected.

We'll have a rough idea when we have to pay for production mid year.

Vlocity27,

We counted the following schemes in our 4.

PTC Teal & Sunflower
V/Line Mk 1 & 2
7007
V/Line Mk3

We're finalising the artwork in the next couple of weeks and we're still yet to decide on the final format of the Mk 1 & Mk 2 schemes.

Which logo do you want for the Mk 1 ?

V/LINE with a blue stripe or V/LINE with a red stripe ?

If you want specific schemes get in now with your suggestions.

The first couple had undercarriage streamlined skirts. They looked very smart too. Unfortunately the manufacturer was way over their axle weight limit, and after negotiating penalties etc, the skirts were removed. I think I ran 7002 (?) to Geelong on a speed trial and reached 145kph. Entering Service was then delayed by about 12 months as the Sprinters were redesigned and the extra weight was lost, and all the rest of the rail motors came without skirts.

On their FB page they say they wont be finalising price and taking orders until probably mid-year when the dollar has stabilised.

Selling items in multiple packs puts me off buying if I only want one of the item, as I do in the case of the Sprinter.

Granted, there is a case for selling items in multiple packs when the prototype ran in multiples but can’t the producers also provide the option of single items for those buyers who want only one?

When the Sprinter is released I will be tempted to buy one if the price is reasonable.  If single Sprinters aren’t available I will probably put up a request on Railpage to ask if somebody else wants to split a multiple pack with me, subject to agreement on colour and running numbers.

"On Track Models Hi Yianni, while we'd love to do singles it's a matter of economies of scale. The minimum number of boxes our factory will produce is 1,000. If we were to produce singles then it's another 1,000 boxes plus inserts that need to be produced. That's around an additional USD $6,000 that needs spread across the rest of the production run. By the time you land them here with the exchange rate, taxes, duties, and shipping it would add about $10 per railcar. Plus then what do we do with 1,200 additional boxes that we can't use ? Some shops may break a set for you."

Thanks for passing on that explanation, Poath Junction.  I hadn't realised that boxes were so expensive.

I would guess the factory dictates yet again, that the labour to fill two models into one box is quicker therefore cheaper for the factory. if the end client wants singles, it would mean more time, and would ask for more money.  Not  really the cost of the boxes at all, just labnor to make and then pack.

Also I'd guess the cost of a powered and a dummy would be so close, again  no advantage to make a dummy. I see this as many sprinter works as 2,3,4 car sets. If cost for a modeller is  tight and want a bigger fleet, consider a Ontrack Models set, then buy up theLydon's Trains kit, make them a dummy........
