Newcastle Rail Line: Announcements

  Northern Flyer Train Controller

At least you didn't edit out the last guy with the bike who says "don't touch the railway, I had to walk right over"

Judging by all the people on the overbridge it looks like they have to walk over to get to the buses? Would be a great trip for an 80 year old on crutches in a thunder storm, at night in the middle of winter. No lifts at Hamilton?

Maybe you should just fade away tezza, the line is now shut beyond Hamilton.
No, 100% wrong - The change from platform is a 40m walk from platform to bus all DDA compliant and no need to cross the tracks. People only use the overbridge infrequently when they don't wait for the level crossing. The funny thing is that what you describe (80 year old on crutches) is what thousands of people have to contend with to get from one side of the city to the other. In some places it is worse with a 1km walk to go 100m as the crow flies. One of the main arguments for removing rail is to make life easier for pedestrians.

"One of the main reasons for removing rail is to make life easier for pedestrians"

Is that so? Then if we can remove pedestrians then it would make it easier for motorists. Nothing to hit.

Now I thought the MAIN reason they removed the rail was to be able to sell the corridor land off to developers. No it was about pedestrians all along.

You guys should spend a little less time grumbling amongst yourselves and a little more on external publicity.

The "chaos" video is a well-made professional propaganda piece. Notice how they chose a quiet time of a bright day. Carpark shots when not congested, rail shots without queued trains etc. Nice background music, finishing with the bicycle dimwit as an example of the kind of people that the new Newcastle does not need. They used names associated with pro-rail activists as tags to attract and mislead youtube searchers. If that stands as the last word then the developers have won this round.

If people have photos and videos of crowd, train, bus or traffic congestion, or ordinary people unhappy about the extra time it now takes to reach Civic or Newcastle, then these should be collected into youtube videos and published as soon as possible. Perhaps also with the combatative and misleading sarcasm of the "chaos" video. How about "social cleansing - discouraging the vermin who prefer not to drive" or "Revitalising Newcastle" showing peak rail passenger traffic, now disused stations and the accidentally released plans for buildings on the rail corridor. You guys should be able to improve on this.

A logical and tangible response to the removal propagandists, but will it be utilised?

Will it make a difference Tezza?

Yes we know, we should've checked to see if stabilization was on. I would the stabilization, and upload again, but that just destroys the top & bottom of the video, and adds at various intervals a flashing black for some odd reason.

Now the PCA are denying re-cutting a pro-rail video to suit the pro-cut's agenda.

Okay so that link didn't show let's try this:

Does anyone know what happed to all of David Threlfo's Newcastle Line videos on youtube, they've all disappeared???
  tezza Chief Commissioner

David Threlfo was asked to make a career choice by NBN so the videos came down, NBN felt they were being implicated as he was riding much too close to the law and well past the common decency test. He would film workers for hours on end without identifying himself.

Had to watch Baird and Beercan's snivelling dials on the news last night at the opening of the new Sydney rail lines.
Both couldn't give a rat's about Newcastle's line though.

Dear Railpage Australia,

I have been asked to post the following on David's behalf

"9.2.2015

Tezza - your post on Railpage Australia™ is completely untrue.  Readers of this forum have the right to know your real name and the source of your information in this matter, so I look forward to you publishing these and also for your published apology for spreading such inaccurate information.  The reality is as follows.

A number of my YouTube videos on the Newcastle Rail issue have been copied, re-edited and misused - by both sides of the rail debate - on a number of recent occasions. I have received hostile messages and posts via Twitter and YouTube about the videos, which were produced in my own time to show what is happening here in Newcastle.

All rail videos have not been deleted as you state, they have been switched to offline (private) and all are still with YouTube. It is people like you Tezza, with such deliberate and ill-informed troll-like posts, designed to cause confusion and trouble regarding the rail issue, that have led me to voluntarily remove the videos for now.  I am sorry that your conspiracy theory is now publicly exposed as a completely fabricated piece of nonsense.

The irony is Tezza, you are part of the reason these videos are down at present. I suggest that people like you, instead of making such inaccurate and offensive statements from behind a keyboard and anonymous identity, get yourself a camera and go and film your own material about the rail line issue. You would then be actually contributing to the debate, instead of creating false statements such as those that you have posted here publicly. And post, like I have, under your real name if you have any conviction in your beliefs or principles.

Many people seem to have forgotten the real issues - a 150 + year old public transport system being buried under tar and concrete and grass, potential job losses, no elected mandate, no Act of Parliament, removing infrastructure at night during an Injunction. Rail passengers experiencing delays due to change of travel at Hamilton. And all against a background of illegal donations, an ICAC enquiry and the resignations in disgrace of elected members of state parliament.  4,000 marched against the rail cuts.  None were listened to.

Instead, people like you Tezza are now involved in little social media wars - a great distraction from what the Government is really doing.  Filming and posting video of some of these issues is important to me in sharing the full story here Tezza, of what a 2015 democracy in NSW is actually like, unlike your gossip mongering on a rail forum.

I await your apology and have sent a tweet and email to Railpage Australia™ Admin, further to this matter.  It is clear by your posts here that you clearly do not want the truth to get in the way of your statements, so I am left wondering what agenda - and for whom - it is that you are promoting here?

Speedbird1 - Thanks for your interest in the rail videos.  These were made for people like you.  Please be assured that the statement by Tezza "The videos are gone for good " is completely untrue and without any basis, as explained above. Rail videos will return in time.

David Threlfo"

Good evening all,

Wonderful to hear from you David, I have surely missed the communication in regards to the continued destruction of the rail line. I do hope that the videos will return soon and the public can continue to be informed in such professional manner.

I am aware of the sorts of abuse received by you, and other people supporting the rail line, and it is that reason above all that I highly commend you and everyone involved in the fight to save the rail. Such abuse is unfounded and shows the ugliest side to democracy that supports destruction of rail. To continue the persuit of public information in the face of such torment is to be congratulated by all, especially given the lack of official media coverage.

To those who support the removal of the rail line, you are welcome to give your views and arguments, but abuse of the sort experienced by many pro-rail supporters is unacceptable, and I hope that Rilpage will not tolerate it.

Good luck and best of wishes to you David, I hope you will return to YouTube in the near future,

Regards,
Speedbird1

Suck it up Princess, there will be no apology for you. The claim as written still stands. You are on the verge of becoming a serial pest Thelfo along the railway corridor, filming workers for hours on end without identifying yourself even when politely requested by those being filmed to stop. When confronted you then throw a hissy fit and run to the newspapers crying harassment when it is you doing the harassing.

Great to have you back T-rex!

I agree with Henry Lawson Jones,
We need the videos back online for the general public. I would consider them the best evidence we have of the work of the government to illegally close this line, and I would not be surprised if Save Our Rail presented the footage as evidence of the injunction being ignored, as it is the most professionally produced and widely available material in regards to the rail line.
I also hope that the videos will become available again so the message can continue to be spread and people know exactly what's going on under cover

Regards,
Speedbird1

Perhaps if the videos were sent to one of the SOR members.
Less threats and whatnot.

I hate to say this but I think Save Our Rail would cop a great deal more flak if they had the videos than David does.

Even if the videos were not placed online in the public forum as such, but were submitted to the court (either by sharing the link or by submitting a copy of the videos on DVD to/via SOR).

Raichase makes a good point in that regard, however it would be preferable if they were publicly available to spread the message about the rail line

Nobody can deny that in a perfect world they should be public, however if they're being hijacked by the anti-rail crowd and creating abuse and heartache for the author, then I can understand why they're no longer private. Provided they can be used as evidence in court, then they've done their job.
