Boort Station demolished

    I have been informed that today a workgroup finished pulling down the dilapidated station at Boort. I understand that the signalling is still place. Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the demolition, only phone pictures taken back in 2010.

    Well the place was a wreck, so I guess it had to be demolished if it wasn't going to be done up.

    I think I remember hearing that the original Bullarto station was of the same design and people from the Daylesford railway had inspected it to take measurements and photos for a future rebuild. At the time I wondered why they didn't just put station on a truck and move it to Bullarto rather than try and raise funds for an expensive rebuild.

    I guess the question is perhaps they intend rebuilding.  Been a while since any passenger services have been up that way?

    I travelled on a special passenger train out that way some 15 years ago, a modified Harris set of carraiges was brought up from Kyneton, if memory serves me correctly it was run by the old A.R.E. society, it was onlythree quarters full, and was run by an N class, unfortunately any pictures took were on an old Kodak camera.  The negatives and photos seem to have been misplaced.   But if was one of the best railfan trips I have done. roderick Smith was on this one, perhaps he can post some photos.     I know a lot of us had a counter lunch in a nearby pub, and the Boort Goods was still running as the yard was nearly full with container traffiic......................

    He did something very naughty a couple of years ago and has been "Persona Non Grata" ever since.

    A good Real Estate  Shyster  would put the station on the market under the title  RENOVATORS DELIGHT  !!!!

    Bogong
    Wycheproof, Pyramid Hill and Lyonville are of the same basic design. Shame about Boort. Termites had really gotten their little chompers into it.

    Of those, Pyramid Hill is still in use, Wycheproof has recently been refurbished and Lyonville is now a private residence, so with no chance of being re-instated for passenger use, and other similar stations existing, little wonder the powers that be decided to demolish it before it fell down.

    Still a little bit sad though. Never nice when another station dissapears into history

    The station building lost It's love a very long time ago.

    Being trashed by careless people along with Insects and other plants and creatures.

    My advice is get your pics of any timber station of other building that isn't currently used before it suffers the same fate. Red Cliffs went a few years ago, now Boort. Hattah, I'm thinking you're in the gun... If they're on the Victorian Heritage Register like Wycheproof, they should be ok until they fall down by themselves from neglect. (cough.. Manangatang...)
